Picard's Mechanical Heart

WTF was that all about? Seems like someone in sickbay, with a warped sense of humor was being a tool, & thought it would be rather humorous to give them their adult outfits in junior sizes
It could very likely have been themselves. Keiko and Guinan would probably prefer the outfit they went in; Picard and Ro being all about duty would of course tell the replicator to fashion a uniform.

^ Agreed. Picard strolled on the bridge as if things were normal, giving orders before Riker nodded to random bridge crew members.

This entire discussion is complicated or obviated by the simple fact that "Samaritan Snare" is so badly conceived that Picard's real situation is difficult to determine.

In that episode, what pretty clearly appears to be an artificial, mechanical replacement heart is shown. However, what is said in dialogue is that Picard has a "parthenogenic implant."

Huh?
Good lord, I never caught that before. WTF?

Irregardless, giving him a mechanical heart was one of the best metaphors ever written into Star Trek lore. The crabby, nasty, unreasonable old man who hates kids is this way because he simply has no real heart.

Beautiful...and almost poetic.

I wonder if it would be superior being mechanical anyway... in the 24th century, technology is significantly advanced. In "All Good Things", we see Geordi has mechanical eye implants (of course, this is later changed, as in "Insurrection" his original eyes are healed). Certainly they'd have the medical technology to replace them with real eyes... so the mechanical implants must be superior.

I see the main premise is that people live with what they've got until an injury requires a replacement... and then they have a choice of having a cloned organ or bio-mechanical replacement. It comes down to personal preference.
