Picard's a father

I don't think he's too old to be a father, since people in Star Trek live into their hundreds. Is there a book where he has a kid?

^Picard and Beverly got married prior to Greater Than the Sum and decided to start a family at the end of that book. Beverly is pregnant in the Destiny trilogy that follows. The upcoming TNG installment of Typhon Pact is reportedly set in 2382, so the baby should have been born by then.

Unless it's one of those odd alien or omnipotent entity sorta pregnancy things. Or, she's suspended in a transporter loop. Or, she's forced into suspended animation after contracting an heretofore unknown and very deadly disease. Or, she fell into a cryogenic suspension tube while trying to deliver pizza to a top-secret government research lab on New Year's Eve.

All things are possible. Let me be your gateway (drug).

That's the problem with children in Trek. If they're on the ship they either have to be involved in the plot somehow, usually by putting them in peril, or they have their own subplot which is usually more mundane. Either way, it's a difficult thing to deal with. As they get older, like Jake in DS9, it becomes easier but for infants, toddlers and younger children it's a minefield.

I can promise that young Baby Picard does not save the Enterprise in Paths of Disharmony. However, I make no promises that the book's very title isn't itself a reference to the tortuous journey undertaken by the child's parents as potty-training begins in earnest.

Now, whether it's his unsupervised actions and mischief, or something else entirely, which plunges the starship into danger and risks the DESTRUCTION OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND THE SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM AS WE KNOW IT, I really can't say. I also cannot reveal whether our wayward toddler is at the center of a tense hostage situation which drives the book's latter third to its explosive conclusion. Monkeys and/or bacon might be involved.

I'm still waiting for the copyedited manuscript to be sent back to me, so I'll let you know.

Considering little Natasha Riker-Troi was kidnapped by a half crazed dino-doctor before she was born, it's probable that 'lil Picard will end up in peril before he's out of diapers

No, we just have to wait for Little Picard's superhuman powers to manifest themselves.

You know it's going to happen sometime.

Do we know yet if it's a boy or a girl? Because if it's a boy I'm waiting for the novel where Jean-Luc sits Little Picard down, and breaks the news to him that he'll most likely be bald by his 18th birthday.

And then, on his 16th birthday LP decides he wants Nero-style Romulan mourning ritual facial tatts. Epic family squabble. LP bombs the vinyard and leaves home vowing revenge on humanity.

By his 21st birthday LP is installed as Praetor of the Second Romulan Empire. The Third Romulan War ends with a tearful family reunion, apologies from all sides and the Picard family promises to "never fight again".

If it's a girl she'll sooner or later end up Borg Queen, or just maybe the Rebirth and Second Coming of the Janeway.

I'm going to put this in spoiler tags just in case, since I don't post in this forum often and I'm not sure how sensitive such things are up here...

According to Star Trek Online: The Needs of the Many, Jean-Luc and Beverly had a son: Rene Jacques Robert Francois Picard. And apparently he ends up marrying the daughter of Will and Deanna, which is kind of eye-roll worthy. Though I'll admit that I was expecting something like that to happen.
