Picard Season 2's Time Travel Will Fix Season 1's Biggest Mistakes

Come on, everyone knows that all the Trek characters died years ago, when their first transporter experience killed them and created a copy with their memories.
Nope. That's is all fanwank speculation. Picard is dead and replaced by a robot with copied memories. Nothing more...

No it's not. He has ZERO organic Picard left , zero brain matter. It's a robot. End of story.
It's still unclear what the building blocks of these apparently organic synths are. It was made very clear that they seem perfectly organic.

They're changing the show's name to Robot Picard. Here's a clip:

That might be a comparison, if you can show me Picard (or Roger Korby) existing as a disembodied entity without organics, robotics or life support.

Picard is about as real as Moriarity in a robot body at this point.

Roger Korby.

Exactly. The real roger korby had died
The robot korby was just a copy memories and all. Robot Picard is now just a copy of Picard that died on season 2. His memories were copied and put into a robot and that's it. The real picard died and all that brain matter and brain cells died. Thats it hes gone. We are watching a copy nothing more. A copy created by a scientist. He is no longer human or really Picard at all.

Not really. This ignores the Closest-continuer theory of philosophy. Since Picard's old body was dying as his new body was being created, the new body is the closest continuation of his old self. More importantly, Picard's psychological identity and psychological characteristics (likes, plans, ambitions, desires, etc.) are fully transferred into the new body and is the closest continuation of Picard. (A great fictionalized example of this is in Pandora's Star by Peter Hamilton in which people get "refreshed" into new bodies as they age. He argues that just as a person who wakes up after sleeping isn't a new person just because of an interruption in consciousness, neither is a transferred consciousness.) We lose and gain the physical material of our bodies all of the time, but we wouldn't say that 40 year old you is no longer the same person as 20 year old you. Picard's heart was already synthetic; that doesn't make him less himself. If the synthetic brain is functionally the same as Picard's human brain to the point where those around him cannot tell the difference, can we really be sure that it's not Picard simply because the material making up his body has changed?!?

Thats a rather artifical criteria. At this point it is pretty much an unwillingness to accept what is presented on screen. That's fine and all but dont expect me to take it seriously.

Chakotay existed as a disembodied entity without organics or robotics. So, Star Trek has well established the idea of duality of the body and mind and the two can be separated through various means.

The simply reality is that there is no substantial difference. It's only an argument point for the sake of arguing. I doubt many believe that Picard isnt really Picard, otherwise they would simply stop watching out of sheer disgust. :vulcan:

Q: The trial never ends.

Picard: Get lost Q. I'm an android now, my human body is dead. I'm dead. I'm just an android with copied memories. Go bother the real me in the afterlife or something, your trial of humanity has nothing to do with me now.

(Q snaps fingers)

Picard: Suddenly I feel a lot... weaker and older. You didn't...?

Q:

So he's the Picard of Theseus now. :nyah:

He has the memories and spirit/soul/essence of Picard, so for all intents and purposes, he's Picard. No Irrumodic Syndrome, no artificial heart...no wait

The only question is, how much is his new mode of existence going to play into anything story related going forward? Does it even get an occasional mention?

It will probably not because such things are not of interest. Q? Interesting. Transhumanism? Not interesting in Star Trek...
