Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

I think we're going to find that the series has a more Disco (2020 instead of 1990) overall aesthetic to it than your preferred TNG-VOY the same way that Enterprise had a significant TNG-VOY feel to it even though it was set up as a prequel series before TOS because it was made in the 2000s and not in the 1960s.
Quite likely. Still, recycling the exact same assets prominently is a step too far. Like when they had that K'tinga or Nemesis era Rumulan uniforms on Enterprise.

This exchange is leading me to believe you're arguing you think DSC ships don't belong in the Post-NEM era. ;)
I really liked the closeup of the 'DISCO-TOLOMY' Tug's in the dockyard.

It seems to have a bit of the DISCO-PRISE in it.

Yes, it is perfectly possible that CBS didn't grant Short Treks enough resources for new meshes. Even likely. And that means that the person at CBS who assigned those resources didn't care enough about there being mew meshes to assign appropriate budget! Seriously. The budget is not some act of god which randomly materialises out of nowhere and no person can affect that. This is human activity and at some point, at some level, someone made decisions. It feels utterly bizarre that I need to explain this, as it should be perfectly self evident..

But budget decisions are not made on an arbitrary basis. You crunch the numbers and figure out what you can afford and also what you can afford to lose. Just like in any other business.

You're right that budgets don't materialize out of nowhere. They come from crunching the numbers and making practical financial decisions.

One can argue, I suppose, that they should have spent more money on the ships at the expense of something else, but you can't just make funds materialize out of nowhere either. Or spend more money than you expect to make in revenue.

Getting back to book publishing, sometimes it simply comes down to "Will spending an extra $10,000 make the book sell better or will it make no difference? And will it put us behind schedule so we risk missing our pub date?"

If it's not going to boost sales significantly, maybe you save that $10,000 for the next project.

I would have loved to put a Michael Whelan or Boris Vallejo cover on every book, but sometimes you just have to make do with recycled stock art from Germany. :)

At the end of the day, all I get out of this is Cool-Looking Generic Starfleet. It's pretty time-neutral looking. Which was probably the intended point. They didn't want to dress it up too much. They just wanted to say, "Hey! Look! We've got Starfleet ships! And see that Dry-Dock Looking thing?"

The "3,000" number was not pulled out of a hat (that's approximately how many people died in the combined terrorist attacks on 9/11 ).

It was chosen intentionally.

I think this will be a defining moment in Picard lore where the Mars Attack changed everything. Similar to how 9/11 changed everything. They could've said "The Dominion War changed everything!" but I like that PIC has grown out of something created on its own terms for the series own purposes.

I appreciate the time and effort it took to put these into the Short.
I have never complained about Them being apathetic in Their zeal to add new DIsco-Era things.
I just wish They add taken a bit more time to add one or two TNG-Era things in that shot as well.

When everyone involved in the show is taking pains to say it's not TNG 2.0 seems to me deliberately not including TNG callbacks would be the point.

Yeah, since the get-go They have been driving the 'look' of the productions with an "Exclusion" mentality, and I think that boils down to Bryan Fuller's initial ideas which the current Folks can't seem to shake.
:sigh:

To me, that was a little too on-the-nose...as was the footage of people trying to escape through a stairwell.

Callbacks????? Not really what's happening. You're not supposed to think Disco when you see them. Unless you're a starship wonk, I guess.
They used a very distinct looking ship that was used as a Disco era ship on this very same season of Short Treks. It is pretty absurd if they assumed that people wouldn't notice and make that connection. You really don't need to be a starship wonk to notice it, you merely need to have some basic shape recognition skills. I really don't understand how people who do not see these things can even follow Star Trek. Do you get confused in the Original films because you cannot tell Enterprise and Excelsior apart?
