I think the complaint is more about the ship talk dominating the discussion to such an extreme, when the story wasn't really about the tech and hardware.
I just rewatched it, and there isn't a lot there to really discuss.

Why would I be watching Short Treks at all if it wasn't for the advertising? How on Earth could I be watching Short Treks and not be familiar with Picard, even if I didn't post on boards like this? They've been plugging the shit out of Picard for months. Short Treks is not a main series, it's a supplement. It was a supplement for Discovery, it was a test bed for a Pike Series, and now it's additional promotion for Picard.
If you're watching Short Treks, you've probably already seen trailers for Picard. And even if not (which is unlikely), the minute you see Picard's face, that should eliminate any doubt about what you're watching. If that doesn't do it, then seeing "Based on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Created by Gene Roddenberry" will.
Credit people with some intelligence.
Let's hope so!I don't think so. I just think this short was put into post-production way before Season 1 of Picard's post-production began, meaning they just didn't have the meshes available for any 24th century ships yet.
It always bugged me a bit even then, But the time difference was not nearly as big and the era was firmly established regardless. There were 23rd century ships on TNG. Why does it matter if a ship model from Discovery was reused, reusing ship models in different eras (some just turned upside down) is a proud Trek production tradition.
Let's hope so!
Well we already have some evidence of this, the shots they used of the Kite Ships attacking mars are already outdated compared to the most recent Picard teasers, as they're missing the Starfleet Delta on their right wing.Let's hope so!
It’s just background details that are just there so they can have a ship and doesn’t have any impact on the story. It just doesn’t affect my enjoyment, especially since it’s a short. It always bugged me a bit even then, But the time difference was not nearly as big and the era was firmly established regardless.
The issue is - there's really not much else to discuss RE this last short unless you want to get into a HTH tactics discussion between two teenage girls.I totally get that Star Trek is different things to different people and some love it for the characters or stories. Others love it for the optimistic vision of the future. Even still, some love it for the tech. I appreciate that.
However, I think the focus on the ship overriding discussion of anything else is a little much. Its one shot. There are a myriad of reasons why there could be a ship from the 2250s in this episode. Pick a rationale for your own personal head canon and go with it. We're Star Trek fans! It's kinda what we do.
Other than that, it is a beautiful little tale, just what these Short Treks are supposed to be.
I'm okay with them reusing Disco ships in Picard. Now if they start using Picard ships in Discovery, I might start scratching my head.

But would you have, before end, without information outside the show? Because I don't think anyone could have, except by a pure guess. If I can watch the whole short and figure out the era based on the stories then the ships are a detail and don't require further attention.
And I can. And, as much as I would like to think so, I'm not the smartest guy in the room.
It was a 9/11 allegory and seems to be tied to whatever changed Starfleet and the Federation, there’s a lot to talk about.
Explanation is easy, and not really the point. Point is that it was lazy, the era was not established until the end, and probably most importantly people fear they might do this in the actual Picard series.Despite the fact that Possum is right and there's a lot more to discuss, the time discussing the ship could be spent coming up with an explanation as opposed to the incessant complaining. Just a thought.![]()

Maybe, maybe not. Hard for me to judge since I already know. But would you have, before end, without information outside the show? Because I don't think anyone could have, except by a pure guess.
I don't think it was lazy at all.Explanation is easy, and not really the point. Point is that it was lazy, the era was not established until the end, and probably most importantly people fear they might do this in the actual Picard series.
