Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

Dunno if this is new, it's region locked for me.

I can see this. There's a bit more context, and a few more shots. The text explains that it's a story about how two enemies became friends. The clip ends with an "emergency alert" message heard by many.

I'm presuming the two girls go to school together and actively dislike each other. Then, their school (on Earth? Elsewhere?) comes under attack, and they build a strong bond of friendship with one another in the crisis. Possibly a Romulan attack? It's unclear still if this is Earth or elsewhere.

Considering the title of the episode, it's probably Mars. And we've seen Mars being attacked in several of the Picard trailers.

So it looks like "Children of Mars" is literally about children on Mars, specifically two girls, attending school when it is attacked by the Starfleet stealth-bomber-looking ships. Color me disappointed.

I have theory the Romulans hijacked those ships based on what happened in the second issue of the Picard prequel comic

Though Mars is the god of war. Children of Mars might just signify their identity - their friendship - was forged through battle.

On the other hand, we know from Picard shots that someone attacks Mars - making it most likely that they are living in Mars. Kinda odd they bothered bringing all those antique physical books there though.

The Romulans were able to hijack Picard's ship using its own computer. They had command codes or something. It hasn't been explained yet, probably will be in issue 3.

Unfortunately, the final comic issue only comes out after the premier of Picard. There must be some massive spoilers in it.

My theory- Children of Mars features a young Engineer MacDougal:

1000

Eh? CoM takes place in the mid 2380s. Did I miss a joke?

T-minus three weeks to the Picard premiere, and T-minus one to "Children of Mars"! Will we get a better teaser, I wonder?

Ha! Ask and ye shall receive. Interesting. There's obviously something very bad happening that brings the girls together in a time of crisis. Certainly (probably!) a metaphor for Picard.

Love the very TNG-esque shuttle, as well!

I consider myself fairly well-versed in Trek lore, but if I were writing a story to be televised that involved Mars, I'd probably pay a visit to Memory Alpha and Google to see if there was something I was forgetting about. Also, don't these shows hire consultants exactly for this reason?
The show has Science Consultants, and I'm sure a few in the Writer's room know some Trek lore, but I wouldn't put it on them that they HAVE to Google a fan based Wikipedia as they often include Novel sources that aren't canon. besides wouldn't be Trek if they DIDN'T ignore canon on some level because it didn't fit with the story they want to tell.

The big fiction is that some fans believe Star Trek canon has always been consistent. It hasn't since 1964 (yes, I'm talking the ORIGINAL pilot) and no they didn't make more of an effort in the later films or the Berman & Braga era either.

Yep my first thought was, looks like the Disco shuttles aren't placeholders after all!
Well the most latest Picard trailers that showed ships the sky, they seem to have replaced at least one of the DSC shuttles.
Maybe the Short Trek FX was done before they decided to change them. Who knows.

Also lmao "SCHOOL SHUTTLE" it's literally a flying school bus.

Looks very much like an updated Type 6 TNG shuttle:

Yes but this specific design is from Discovery.

It's a Romulan alert. That doesn't mean much in Kurtzman Trek, since the Discovery has a Klingon alert sound, VOY doorbells, and Enterprise D hailing sounds, but maybe they finally cared about sound consistency again and it's a Romulan school?

That's also the Blue Alert sound for Fed ships.

Edit: no I'm wrong. But I'm sure I've heard that places other than Romulan ships.

It was always a 24th century Romulan alert, until it appeared once on DIS, which mostly uses the 24th century Klingon alert.
