Amazon.de lists the German hard cover edition for February 18th and the paperback edition for February 12th. I guess they will be late on both of the versions....

i really hope my local Barnes and Noble has the book out today. Sometimes they break street dates and put new books out the friday before the street date.

I'm 60 pages in and I'm already not liking it. Picard gave up his ship way too fast. He also gave up being a captain without even thinking of what Kirk said to him. I also don't know why the Enterprise would be blackballed from helping. They helped them from that embarrassing Shinzon incident, and you'd think the Romulans would want the best in the fleet to help.
So in 2381 they found out they had 6 years to help evacuate 900 million Romulans. That's plenty of time. I don't understand why they need to build a whole new fleet to help. Those Galaxy Class ships are massive with an evacuation capacity of 15,000 people. Just send a few of those in every now or then, as well as other large craft and you should be able to get all of them with plenty of time to spare. Plus, why is it just the Federation's responsibility? The other allied powers would help as well. You might have soon issues with the Klingons but I doubt Martok would want them all to die like that.
It is rather funny how much they are making this as a big deal that would affect generations to come when at this time in the novelVerse, the Borg lead their massive invasion fleet to the alpha and beta quadrants which caused more damage in the aftermath than this will ever do. The Federation managed to handle that in stride, without needing to build an insane amount of ships or having Picard leaving the Enterprise.
I did like that Worf is in command of the Enterprise now. I don't know if that will last though. That Clancy lady sounds like she will sack him after the attack happens.

Maybe they couldn't. Considering how often "the only ship in range" pops up, maybe the fleet is just not large enough to pull it off at that point. If a Galaxy can take 15,000 people it would take them sixty thousand days even if they could make a round trip every single day. Max that out to a reasonable number of ships and a more believable turnaround time and I could see the years disappearing pretty rapidly.

There is more than one Galaxy, plus there are plenty of other large ships.
No ship is 6 years away.

Yeah, I know all that. Those are base numbers/ideas to illustrate why they might need to build or refit old ships.

I’m not saying that they don’t need to build ships. Just not as many as said here.

Would the Klingons really be willing to help the Romulans? They have been mortal enemies for years. Surely they would say that because the Romulans have always acted without honour, they deserve to die and they shall claim the remaining teritory for the glory of the Empire.

I’m sure Picard could force them to help. He’s good at that. :)
They were allies in the Dominion war. It isn’t that hard to imagine they might help. I’m sure the Romulans would never hear the end of it from them though.
What about the Ferengi? I’m sure the Federation and Romulan Star Empire have some wealth to buy some assistance from them.

Does it end before the Countdown comic, or does the comic take place between sections of the novel?
I think the comic takes place during the novel. I seem to recollect Dayton saying that the novel and comic are complementary with one another. I'm imagining something like the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire project, where the novel and the comic told different stories but locked together.

Despite working in the comics industry, I was unable to get the first issue of the comic, as its orders were due around the time I was hospitalized in the autumn, so I'm trade-waiting.

In the states, Last Best Hope is currently on sale at Amazon for 54% off. Can't beat that price. $11.59.

Plus going off TNG era - the Federation was constantly fighting with its neighbours - who knows what ships of the line were upto.

150 pages in and nothing from Spock or the Red Matter? You can’t just ignore that part of the story.

^ Maybe the TV show is restricting them from dealing with that particular aspect (Disclaimer: haven't read this novel yet).

Seems like a odd thing to do with those JJVerse books coming out. They could have added some seeds to this that could be expanded on in those.
