Peyton Manning's Future

It's pretty much gonna be Denver now I think. Elway and Bowlen are in NC watching Manning throw, and the Cardinals just announced that they are paying Kevin Kolb his $7 Million, so he's staying and Manning isn't coming to AZ.

Denver and Tennessee can't be feeling good about SanFran getting into the mix. Manning's looking at all aspects of this move and not just the game side of the deal, but the 49ers have a clear advantage over the remaining two teams in the football department. A great defense, a respectable offense, an insanely weak division. If Manning is looking for the next ring or two, he's not going to get a much easier road than going with the 49ers. My only question would be whether or not Harbaugh is willing to give up offensive control and play Manning-ball.

If the 49ers are still in this, I think we can probably call them the #1 team in this race at the moment.

Do the Manning brothers want to be in a position to play each other in the Conference Championship game or the Superbowl?

Well it looks like he's coming to Denver. I really didn't expect that. The problem is, if they trade Tebow which seems likely, what happens if Manning goes down? I can't imagine that anyone they bring in to back him up would be any better than Tebow. Brady Quinn isn't coming back (can't blame him), and there isn't anyone on the free agent market decent enough right now, and while they can draft someone, they wouldn't be ready or good enough right away.

They may draft a backup just for insurance. I wonder how much of a factor the Broncos' upcoming schedule was... No games against either Indianapolis or the N.Y. Giants.

They have to do something for another QB. The Broncos went into last season with Orton, Quinn, Tebow and Adam Weber, the practice squad guy.
Orton and Quinn are gone. Tebow will be traded, so that leaves Weber. I doubt he's a decent 2nd stringer, at least at this time, so the Broncos have to go out and pick up somebody to back up Manning.

My dad is devistated by them picking up Manning. Not because he was such a Tebow fan, but my dad went to Vanderbilt and they have this intense rivalry with Univ of Tennessee and he just hates the guy.
Funny thing is, Todd Helton of the Rockies went to Tennessee and was Manning's back-up and took over when Manning graduated. My dad loves Helton.

Actually, in 1994, Todd Helton was backup to Jerry Colquitt.... for all of seven plays. Then, it fell to Todd to be the starter and mentor to freshmen Peyton Manning and Brandon Stewart (who later transfered to Texas A&M). When Todd got hurt in the fourth game of the season against Mississippi State, he was free to think about his future in pro baseball, and Peyton would be the starting quarterback until he graduated. The rest, as they say, is history.

Yeah, the guy that took over for Peyton was Tee Martin and he led them to a National Championship.

Shame that the Titans didn't end up winning the Manning Lottery, but at least now I can happily root for the Broncos again!

And former Rockies outfielder Seth Smith was Eli's backup at Ole Miss.

They both decided that baseball was their way through the world.

Thanks for the clarification, I always thought it was the other way around.
