Peyton Manning's Future

^^
I still love the way Litton draws Elway!

I figured there was no way that Manning would actually consider Denver, but fact that he stayed longer than originally planned, went to a Nuggets game, and spent a lot of time with Elway and Fox, I'm getting caught up in the hype.
If he's healthy enough to play, he still has a limited shelf-life, maybe four years tops, so he has to make the most of that time if his intent is another superbowl, then Denver is the best option of those three to make it to the playoffs right away. The AFC west is horrible so that makes a playoff berth almost automatic if he's under center.

Miami is the most intriguing to me but it seems he is choosing between Denver and Arizona. Seattle is trying to move in but they have no chance.

If it was me - I would consider Baltimore, but too many obstacles there since they have an established QB.

Vic Lombardi, a Denver sportscaster, is claiming to have a source that is saying that there's an 80% chance that Manning is a Bronco, even after his visit with the Cardinals. Vic is claiming that this specific source hasn't been wrong about anything he's leaked yet, so we'll see. If Manning is even 80% of what he use to be, this will be an amazing opportunity for Denver. I love Tebow, but how can we say no to Manning? And I would like to hope that we have more in the area of talent than that Colts team has had the last couple years. Of course, the signing of Manning, especially since this is likely only going to be a couple year thing, pretty much shows where the Broncos feel they are in regards to the rebuilding process. Specifically, they're saying, "Fuck the rebuild, we're going all in."

With that said, does anyone remember the last time Denver hasn't tried to take a massive dump on their present QB? I think the last Broncos QB that was treated well was Elway, and even he had to survive some abuse to get to that point.

Lombardi is kind of a tool so I'm skeptical about his 'source' (and by 'source' I mean I think he's making it up). I just don't like Vic Lombardi, or anyone on the sports team at Channel 4.
You're right about Elway being the last QB that was treated well, but look at who we had since he left: Brister, Griese, Plummer, Orton. All of them had to live up to Elway's legacy, that's an impossible task. Manning is legit. Tebow may be a great human being and a tremendous athlete, but as a long term solution he's a giant question mark. The way he throws is wrong, and his love of running the ball will one day get him hurt, and that won't help the team.
The problem with getting Manning is that he'll be treated like royalty until he falters, and if Tebow is gone then they'll be a massive uprising. Especially if Tebow has any kind of success wherever he goes.

Manning is supposedly meeting with Joe Philbin either tonight or tomorrow, and he's now expected to meet with Mike Munchak in Tennessee no later than Wednesday. In any event, he's still evaluating teams -- no discussions with any team have even touched upon contractual stuff. Manning has the luxury of hitting free agency in a seller's market.

So... Manning's apparently meeting with the Titans, which I never expected to actually happen. I'm... not entirely sure how I feel about this.

On the one hand I love the Titans and this would be an amazing coup for them. It would definitely help the fanbase because here in the East there's almost (till now) as many Colts fans as Titans fans because of loyalty to Peyton's days with the Vols. And I can't deny that seeing Peyton playing for my team and rooting wholeheartedly for him would be great.

On the other hand, Bud Adams is an asshole and the whole thing happened cause Bud basically said "Fuck what my coaches and general manager want, I want Manning and I'm the owner and we're gonna do what I dictate from my lair in Houston where I never left because I'm too important to go to Nashville." And I'm generally very happy with the Titans' quarterback situation - Locker's got great potential and Hasselbeck's a great crafty veteran to have until he's ready. The last time Bud made a dictate about quarterbacks it worked for about a year and a half before Vince melted down (fortunately he's not our problem any more!); now obviously that specific situation won't happen with Manning, but it's like he's trying to turn into Al Davis without the, you know, history of excellence and superbowls.

I'm betting on the Titans. He went to college in Tennessee and his wife is from there. Plus, if he liked the Broncos or Cardinals, he would have made the decision already so his new team can get going on free agents. The Titans coming in at the last minute is probably too intriguing to pass up. Plus they have plent of cap room for him.

I would love to see Peyton go to the Titans and beat the Colts twice. You're also going to see an enormous amount of the Colts fanbase in the south suddenly be Titans fans.

ESPN is claiming the Dolphins are now out of the picture. The Dolphins are now apparently flying Matt Flynn in for some talks.

The teams left on the table are the Broncos, the Titans, and the Cardinals.

At this stage, I don't care where Manning ends up as long as it's not with the Titans. The desperation from Bud Adams is just bizarre and sad. He knows Al Davis isn't around to do crazy stuff any more, so he's cranking his crazy-meter up to 11. So far, Adams.....
~Has said, "I don't care what my staff thinks, I want Manning and they will all be happy about it" even though they have 2 QB's that they are happy with.
~Has offered to pay Manning anything he wants.
~Has promised Manning a front office job when he retires.
~Has now offered Manning a "life-long contract".

I can understand wanting the guy, but this is just nuts.

I think that's the better decision for Miami, frankly. Keeps the Green Bay continuity.

If Kurt Warner did it in a largely intact Arizona, and he wants another ring, maybe that' ll be his destination.

Broncos woudn't be good for his arthritis. :p

It's on the radio here in Denver that Pat Bowlen's plane is leaving for North Carolina this morning and
Elway was spotted pulling into Centennial airport.
I still think the guy should retire, but still, if we could get him...

Read a report today that the 49ers secretly got into the Payton Manning sweepstakes, tried him out and gave him a physical earlier this week. To that I say, holy cow what a bombshell. If Payton wants to win now, San Francisco is a great place for it, especially with pretty much the entire defense coming back and a full offseason. They might have disappointed in the Championship game, but if they are able to get Payton Manning, all will be forgiven.
