Petition: Cancel the New CBS Star Trek Series Now!

But the truth is that the whole ''My Star Trek is better than Your Star Trek'', or ''My Doctor Who is better than your Doctor Who'', or ''My Battlestar Galactica is better than your Battlestar Galactica'', or ''Original Trilogy is better than Prequel Trilogy'', etc etc discussions do leave me weary of internet fandom. Let's all just agree to disagree, and let people enjoy the things that they want to enjoy, eh? :techman:

It does tend to wear one down after a while. Post after post of negativity about something that we all love or else we wouldn't be here.

I don't mind admitting I was being facetious. :) :) :)

But...but...MINE is better! :klingon:

Yeah, honestly, what I've seen on this forum over the last 4 days has made me feel pretty weary - TrekBBS is one of the largest places of Star Trek discussion - by now, Star Wars fans would be picking apart every little fascinating bit of continuity - tiny hints - instead here the reaction has been both suprisingly muted, as if nobody, in the heart of Trek fandom cares that much, and also very negative.

I admit, I have my worries, but it's time to get into gear like the fans of the best damn TV franchise we are, and act like true geeks.

As noted, this is not unique to Trek fandom. Just this week, a Godzilla fan I know was "unfriended" by another Godzilla fan because he dared to consider the 2014 remake a "real" Godzilla movie. (The nerve!)

And don't get me started on "Marvel vs. DC" arguments.

Remember when we used to watch this stuff for fun?

That's a very good point. :) There are people who criticize the prequels, but ultimately have accepted them all as part of the tapestry. On the other hand, almost nobody that I've seen has reacted negatively to JJ's new Star Wars, and for the most part people are just super excited about the possibilities.

The reaction of some within Trek fandom over the announcement of the new TV series reminds me of reaction to TNG in 1987... people were interested, but there was also a lot of ''It can never live up to the name Star Trek!'' in there as well. I'd hope that most of us would now be willing to give this new show a chance.

Trek fandom is always resistant to the current iteration. Now that we have a new show, it will become the ultimate representation of True Evil. The Abramsverse will now be accepted as "True Trek" while the new show will be hated until the next Trek iteration is announced and the fans decide that has betrayed Roddenberry's ideals or whatever by virtue of existing.

Death by snu snu!!!

First by the large-boned trolls. Then by the small fans. Then by the medium-sized posters who are reserving judgment until they see the show for themselves!

I still do...but I can't help think that it makes me the odd man out.

In the name of tru-fandom, fading in the shadow of new Star Trek, I ask that Cogley's petition be signed. More than that, I demand it!

I would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to help me ban the rock music.

For the safety of our children.

I tried signing the petition but ended up casting a vote for Pat Buchanan.

The hell?!
