Petition: Cancel the New CBS Star Trek Series Now!

Why is it every time something people are excited about is announced on the internet, as soon as people naturally start to express any small reservations, some obnoxious troll comes along and makes an 'OMIGOSH IM SO CLEVER' parody post like everybody who isn't unreservedly gushing it is just an unsatisfiable complainer?

I think there's a difference between "unreservedly gushing" and being bemused by all the angst and drama over a show that doesn't even exist yet!

And let's be honest: there's also a difference between "any small reservations" and some of the premature doom-saying we've witnessed over the last few days.

It says something that I actually thought the petition was legit at first . . . .

Exactly! It's the title that gets ya! Then you read it, get the joke, have a laugh, and voilla...thy day is brightened. :)

I, too, was fully prepared to mock just what inanity this malcontented Trek fanboy was going to spout. This basement dwelling virgin who seemed to think that somehow his voice, and the voices of his few signatories would bring about the glorious return of something that had been inconsistent since day one.

But then I saw the source, took a chance, read the petition, and laughed my ass off at how funny and spot on it was. And to that source, I can only say: "Thank you for making my day with a great laugh." :)

Of course, I can hear the counter-arguments.

"Yeah, Martok, it's the title that gets ya! Star Trek, the title, got me. Then I saw what the movies were all about, and I was angry because they were too fun, and too accessible to the mainstream movie goer. My Star Trek is gone! My little bubble is gone! Now we've got a new Star Trek series, and I was all excited until I saw it is being helmed by someone who was involved with that which took My Star Trek away in the first place...and it's gonna suck! So yeah, the title got me. Then all I had to do was look at one name, and now I'm convinced it's gonna suck! One name, Martok! I dare you to do better than that!"

:D

Anyway, this is a pretty big satire fail. It manages to simultaneously be a nerd stereotype and attack nerd strawmen.

I do believe that calling someone a troll is an actionable penalty here at this board.

And please don't warn this guy.

I am incapable of being offended.

I'm sure there were people saying the same kinds of things about The Next Generation back in 1987. But I'm sure glad they ignored the naysayers then, just as I'll be glad when they ignore them now.

Signed!

We must drive out the blasted heathens that dare make Star Trek! How dare Kurtzman violate the divinity of the Holy Church of the Rod!

You've shown me something that makes me feel young as when the world was new.

Forget the petition. This thread is turning into a reunion of old faces from the halcyon days of TBBS. The band's getting back together again.

Now....

How much for THE WOMEN?!?!?!?!?
