Peter Capaldi in "The Musketeers"

Anyone seen this yet? I've been enjoying looking up Capaldi's more recent roles in anticipation of his true premiere coming in August, and I must admit I like what I see. His role as Richelieu isn't given that much to do in the first episode, as most of it is exposition, but he gets through it in fine enough form.

I've read that the producers of The Musketeers are currently wondering what to do for a second series (assuming one is commissioned), given Capaldi's schedule won't let him appear full time in both series. This leads me to wonder how important he is to The Musketeers series overall - Richelieu is the principal and most well-known antagonist from the original book (and also a real historical person), so they may have had long-term plans for him...

yeah, watched it on catch-up this evening. not bad and I thought his character was rather enjoyable in a stereotypical evil villain way (heck, he even had the evil moustache to twirl whilst plotting evil things ). my guess is that he will either be killed off or sent fleeing, possibly to return in the second series' finale. who knows. WHO knows? (see what I did there )

He played it in a rather low-key way, certainly not all twirling mustachios and campy villainy. It was an okay but so far not stellar performance.

As far as Richelieu's importance to the Musketeers is concerned, he is only in the first novel, so if this series is a complete adaptation of that then Capaldi's services won't be required in future seasons - Cardinal Mazarin is the man in red in Twenty Years After, which would presumably be the source for series two.

I think you overestimate Doctor Who's shooting schedule. Based on the last few years, he will likely have something approaching half the year free to film other projects (if he is interested in pursuing them, and the producers aren't going to be overly fussy about his "brand image" or whatever) minus promotional tours, convention appearances, talk shows and the like of course, which eat up a few more weeks.

Look at the output of someone like Cumberbatch the last few years. You can fit a lot of acting into a year if so inclined.

Too bad. I think he's really doing a great job. I especially liked him in the current episode which gave him the opportunity to do more than the usual scheming. Can't wait to see him as the Doctor.
