Okay how come Voyager didn`t have a pet?

TNG had Spot the Cat
DS9 had Morn
Enterprise had Porthos (Beagle.)

What did Voyager have?!

I voted other--it should have had a guinea pig. Just because I'm a fan of Linnie from Wonder Pets.

Okay...... Somehow I don`t think a guinea pig is going to have the mass appeal of Porthos?!

Yes, there ought to be a cat or dog around. Surely one of 150 individuals would have a pet brought aboard.
Anyway, since most of the action was on Deck 1 anyway, we can pretend there was one, just not shown.

Well, they had Neelix, right? ;)
You stole my line! :klingon:

More seriously, I'd say a bird would have been cool, and in line with the theme of the show. TNG had a cat: homey, complacent, yet perfectly capable of causing massive amount of pain; ENT had a beagle, adventurous, naive and prone to get kicked. VOY was carefree and up for a long voyage: a swallow would have been good. ;)

well if you remember Tom Paris once complained that he had to chase a rat into bulky heads.

So see voyager had rats, those are pets.

I was wondering how long someone was going to say that. You can`t use Neelix, he spoke, Morn never said anything ever!
Okay then, how about Harry Kim? He never said anything, he was kept around because he was cute, he could do tricks, he slept at the end of Tom's bed, and he shed hairs all over his console.

There was Neelix the cat? (Barclay's cat) Ok not ON Voyager the ship, but on Voyager the show?

And Janeway danced around with here dog in the first episode.

Yes. This is part of the reason the "Trek community so negative about Voyager": it was so damn sterile.

- No pets. A labrador or two could have gone a long way towards cheering people up.

- Hardly any plants anywhere, not in the mess, etc. A few tomatoes growing in a storage room, whoopee. How about making a garden?

- I can't recall if there were any weddings besides Tom and B'Elanna, but there should have been several, along with childbirths. The senior staff should have dated people apart from each other and guest stars. As has been said above, heavy petting.

- Some ENT-style movie night would have been appropriate. Far less energy than a holodeck program, can fit more crew at a time, etc.

- Heck, was there a gym? Badminton teams? Theatrical efforts? Recognizably human pastimes besides Tom watching Loony Tunes and Tuvok meditating by candlelight? Chili cook-offs?

- We never see anyone walking around the decks in civvies that I can recall. Though this holds true for other series, do people not change clothes while off-duty, apart from putting on pajamas?

- Could the Doctor not have trained a few full-time medics? Even if it'd take years.

Some of the above might well apply to the other series, and some stuff might bend Starfleet rules a bit... but as Ron Moore noted, they should have developed some degree of singular, in-ship culture. Without any external family to relate to, the crew should be interacting much more than we sense they do, and more so than on other series, where crew who get fed up with the strictures and discipline of Starfleet life are free to check out and return to their families/homes/whatever at any time.

And a single labrador would have been worth scenes upon scenes of fancy special effects.

^ This is sewious!

...We need to help him/to save the beagle/to save the beagle/to save the beagle/wheee!"

I couldn't help it. That show is just so etched into my brain right now. Along with all the other Nick Jr. shows. Shit, Neelix mentioned getting a map on VOY last week, and I had Dora's map song in my head all weekend. Insidious.

(AFAIK, there isn't an episode where they save a beagle, but since we're talking about Trek pets, I thought it was appropriate.)

Glad there's someone else on here who's seen Wonder Pets!
