Personal Sonic Screwdriver?

Picked one up a month back over here in the UK. Not made it yet, but it's quite nice.
Minor grumbles: there's only one sound/light unit, so you effectively get two 'dead screwdrivers' and one live one, and while the third set of screwdriver parts, in addition to the 9th/10th and 11th Doctor versions, is nice with a lot of glowy sections and Time Lord styling, it's a pity theat there iaren't the bits to build something more like the 3rd/4th/5th/7th/8th Doctor version as well.

Makes me wish I had a spare $40 lying around. Bet I could make something interesting with some of the spare brass and copper bits from some of my steampunk props.

Some collector really missed the boat on this one. How cool would it be to have each Doctors screwdriver mounted in a wall display?

Oh, turns out the 2nd had one too.

Alright ... I've ordered it from whona.com ... 32.99 there, vs. 49.99 on Amazon. I added a bunch of other things to it (mini pewter figures, a book, and the "bonus $5 figure" - I assume they're all overstock things) and even with shipping, it was STILL cheaper than what Amazon wanted for just the Screwdriver.

I've had mine for awhile now. As someone who loves buzzing around with a sonic every once in awhile, this was perfect for me. Even though there are 80 potentially different sonic screwdrivers possible, there are three default models--the 11th Doctor's, a "steampunk" model, and an "ultra-futuristic" model.

There are two primary sound/light-up effects, but six other hidden ones.

Please let us know how sturdy this is. I'd be interested in getting something like this, but if it's going to fall apart on me, I'd rather not.

They're pretty sturdy. I mean you don't want to throw them as hard as you can against a wall or anything, but they're about as durable as the sonics for the various Doctors. I've carried two different combinations in my jacket pocket this week without any problems.

There was a brief time, however, when I first got the kit that I thought one of the three light-up head components didn't fit very well and would always pop off easily, but once I learned how it locked tightly into place, it was all good.

Tempting but I think I'll be passing. And I just discovered that my 10th's sonic is dead. Lights, no sounds. Replaced the batteries but still no sound. And all it had done is sit on a shelf in the closet for the past year. Time to toss it. More plastic in a landfill sadly. Can't give a broken toy to Goodwill. That's just wrong.

Convert it into the exploded one from 11th hour...

Saw those sets at Dragon's Lair in Austin a few weeks ago...I think I'll stick with the 9th/10th Doctor version I got a couple of years ago for my Halloween costume.

I do need to replace the batteries, though...

That's not a bad idea. I'll be the only kid on the block with one! And I've got all I need... dead sonic, starter fluid for the barbecue and matches! :D

Sound cards going dead in electronic toys after a long period of non-usage can sometimes happen, and not just in Doctor Who toys (one of my Star Wars lightsabers is slowly going silent).

Or send it to a certain fan who's too poor to afford one?
