The Lord of the Rings - newbie questions!

The extended versions of the OT are wonderful. There is a lot to like about the HT, but I found something about the look and feel of the movies to be off-putting. Rings of Power series is pretty amazing. The second season really found its footing.

As for the animated movies from the 70s... The less said about the LOTR, the better. The Hobbit was just ok. I find it unwatchable now.

I've never read the Silmarillion, depite it being the basis of my handle (the band Marillion used to be called Silmarillion until the started to get popular and were legally advised to drop the "Sil."

Better than dropping the "Marillion". ;)

Yes. I recommend the extended versions AND the Hobbit extended versions. I love all 6 films. If you look at the Hobbit films as films rather than one book you will enjoy them. They were fantastic films and everything I would have wanted in a fantasy films as a kid. Yes they added to the stories but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of all three films. One has to not think about the book story and constantly compare.
Thank you. For now, I'm just eyeballing the LOTR trilogy, and if I end up liking those, then the Hobbit trilogy.
