  • Archer...he may predate Kirk and the others, but his raw edge is his best asset

Does the starship make the person? Or does the person make the starship. If all five of our lead captains, Kirk-Picard-Sisko-Janeway-Archer, were given the exact same ship to prepare with, over a year's time..and were forced to fight each other, all at the same time, with no alliances, just every person for themselves, who would win???

I do like your questions! :techman:

I think both.

In the case you suggest though, they'd cancel each other out. It would be an ineffective and pointless exercise. Being Starfleet captains, they'd be sensible enough to recognise it as such and negotiate a peaceful settlement instead! :guffaw:

Having said that, I think Janeway may have the advantage in such a battle because she thinks differently to the males and is more willing to think and act "outside the box".

Ugh. I suppose Janeway. Any of the other 4 would kick her butt. Then she would pout about it for 20 years and come back in time to assist her younger self defeat them.

Toss-up between Picard and Sisko. Picard and co. got the brains but Sisko has the brawn (the Defiant). I think Picard could find some innovative ways to take down the Defiant.

Picard and Sisko's personalities and command styles were formed long before Enterprise and the Defiant came along. Same with Kirk. All three got there commands because of who they were already. Archer got his command because of his father, and because he continued his fathers work. Janeway... I don't know about Janeway. She's a loose canon and probably shouldn't be a starship captain in the first place.

Definitely Kirk. The Picard Maneuver's got nothing on his tactics from Balance of Terror. Sisko is a better wartime fleet commander, so I don't think he'd be great at ship to ship combat.

Ive gone for Picard, but Kirk would be a close second for me.

My choice was not just about who the captain is, but the whole bridge crew.
(as indicated in the options)

However it might be interesting to "mix and match" the best bridge crew.

I'll have to go with Picard and Co. I think Picards battle tactics are sorely underated, and we heard many times how good Picard was in battle.

Why is this interesting? I'm totally and completely unconcerned with imagining Trek crews fighting each other. They wouldn't do it, there's my answer.

Actually a tough one. On an equal playinig field, I gave a narrow edge to Kirk. Why? I just don't know. Maybe nostalgia. Maybe Jimmy has just shown he has a shitload of luck where it counts. In any case, I think it would be close between Kirk, Sisko, and Picard.

No, no. You're all avoiding the real issue. the appropriate situation would be five captains, one table, five card stud, and the sky's the limit.

None would risk harming Archer, founder of the Federation, for fear of wiping their own history. Archer would use that reprieve to go hide somewhere. The rest would not attack Kirk (same reason). He would then try to circle around for a surprise attack but get lost in the process. No harm could come to Sisko. The Prophets would protect their precious Emissary and perhaps engage him in a vision untill the battle is over. Picard wouldn't attack a woman. So that leaves Janeway as last man standing.
