So I saw a lot of posts on FB about crying when Uhura died, even more so when Spock died (I mean the actors before anyone starts), why??? Is it sad? Sure but enough to cry? Did they know them personally? Is their death going to make any noticeable difference to their life? I’m guessing the answer to both of those is “no”, so why be so upset about it that you cry?

People react to events differently. Some people feel very strong connections to these characters and the actors playing them, whether just through the ground they broke on TV (for example, for women of colour with Uhura) or because they've met them at conventions or whatever. Why not be upset and cry, what does it matter to you?

You didn't cry.
They did.
No judgment is necessary or welcome.

Correct.

This seems like a completely unnecessary and potentially really insulting topic to start a thread about.

Also correct.

@ED-209 you may not have intended to be insulting, but the whole premise seems to boil down to "justify yourselves" and that's just not a good place to go.
