People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Trek...

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

There just has to be a USS Colbert somewhere in the Trekverse.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

Are these people who would get ships named after them in a future Star Trek episode/movie, or are these people who actually deserve to have interstellar ships named after them 300 years from now? Because I don't think those two lists are congruent.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

U.S.S. Sheldon Cooper
U.S.S. Leonard Hofsteader
U.S.S. Rajesh Kuthrapali
U.S.S. Howard Walowitz

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

There's bound to be a USS Kepler somewhere out there, too.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

The USS Sheen. It carries torpedoes of truth, that would totally annihilate the enemy's screwed-up sense of reality.

It has a generous supply of Adonis DNA, should be good for research or something. For medical missions, it carries a huge supply of tiger blood, that will blow-ur-mind.

It's a positive ship too. Because it's always winning. There has to be a lot of great parties on this ship.

Either that or the USS Ali or USS Gaga.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

How about President Obama, or King Abdullah of Jordan? They'd love that, since they're both huge Trekkies anyway. :D

Obama, are you kidding.

Probably not, seeing as how there's a long and very established tradition of naming ships, ports, bases, and stations after presidents regardless of parties, feats, deeds, and the like.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

But they are the enligtened federation.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

Due to an unfortunate accident of irony. The USS Neil DeGrasse Tyson is trapped permanently in orbit around Pluto.

And the USS Howard Wolowitz has to return home to SpaceDock at the end of each day.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev
Lech Wałęsa
Robert Nesta Marley

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

USS Joss Whedon, though people are reluctant to serve on it because of its extremely high death rate.

USS George Lucas, fires first at a Romulan vessel and then travels back in time to fire second instead. Despite the change in history people still believe it fired first and for will never get over it.

USS One Direction, because it has that "one thing".

USS Simon Cowell, goes around judging if planets can join the Federation.

Re: People currently alive who would get ships named after them in Tre

The USS Teacake is a bit annoying and contentless, but has a great mess hall.

 Wait, I thought the Borg ate Pluto, or something to that effect.

So does that mean every other president should be barred, too? Theodore Roosevelt increased US imperialism in Asia and elsewhere leading to a whole lot of colonial oppression and exploitation of native populations (whose effects are still felt today, over a hundred years later), and he encouraged eugenics of the social underclass, especially of the unemployed and the disabled -- and yet the Federation still saw fit to name a Starfleet vessel after him in Voyager. None of that seems very enlightened, but presidents and world leaders are fair game.

I was going to suggest the USS Iguana Tonante but I became bashful and relented. I commend you shamelessness. Well done! :D

US President? Well, I'd say yes. While some were laudable in one way or the other, their goal was first and foremost the interests of their of their own people. I may cut some slack for George Washington (for getting the thing started) and Abraham Lincoln (for the emancipation), but that's about it.

Beside, ask yourself: how many French Presidents, British Prime Ministers, or Italian Chairman of the Council of Ministers do you think should be celebrated in Star Trek? Not many, I suppose. In the end, they were just regional leaders. Are US Presidents somehow special in that regard? (Hint: no.)
