Pegg's 'stache

Kelso

Vice Admiral
Admiral
It really doesn't matter that Scotty didn't have a mustache during the original series. I think it's a sure bet that he'll have on in the new film. It will help cement Pegg as Scotty in the eyes of the casual viewers.

What do you think, should Simon sport a mustache in this film?

Yeah why not.

Give Spock a goatee too as that would be the answer to all the canon folk.

why would that cement him as Scotty? Scotty didn't have a stache until the movies...

I think it would be more in the accent, and the 'tude, than the 'stash.

p.s., the more I think about this, I say no. With his face, I think it's a better shot at resembling Doohan if he has no moustache.

Who's to say he didn't have one his entire life other than those 3 years? Most people's image of Scotty is the fat mustached version from the films, no harm in playing to the audience a bit with a nice bushy brown mustache.

quite true. I'm basing my conclusion not on TOS canon, but I my own conclusions and opinions about Pegg's face structure. Personally, I think a stash might muck it up...

He will never resemble Doohan to any real extent. The 'stache and some hair dye would make him look less like Shawn(of the Dead) though, which would be a good thing in my book.

I'd rather that he not have one, but it wouldn't bother me if he did. OTOH, they need to get the accent, attitude, alcohol, and astronautics right.

Pegg did a Scottish accent on an episode of Dr Terrible's House Of Horrible. *Never heard of it! - 90% of everyone* - although it was a different Scottish accent than Scotty's.

Still, he did it very well.

:D

Auch! Nay! A moooostache would get singed in the plasma coils, ya ken man?

Yes. After all, it isn't a Trek TOS movie unless Scotty has a stache.

In fact, I will boycott this movie if Scotty doesn't have a stache on the grounds that Abrams doesn't know TOS.

Keeping the space fungus is the least we have to worry about.

I'm imagining Pegg at home right now, deep into his research, doing his best Groundskeeper Willie impression...

"Bonjourrrrr, yah cheese-eatin' surrender monkeys!"

His wife is Glaswegian too so hopefully that'll help in some way.

Since this movie is supposed to pre-date TOS, I believe most male members of the crew should wear mustaches to reflect the different fashions of that era.
