Pegg or Mcgillion

I thought Pegg made a very interesting Scotty, so I'm happy with him.
^ Me, too. I like Pegg's Scotty. He had that maniacal glee that was just right.
I think Pegg injected something special into the role that McGillion (much as I like the actor) wouldn't have.
One might opine that his version of Scotty would've been more "Urban"-esque in its rendition, but I'm not sure he would've had the movie chops to make it stick like that.

I'm not that familiar with SG:A so I don't know how McGillion would have done. I thought Pegg was fine, though.
That being said: I also thought Craig Ferguson (yes, that one) would have made a good Scotty. And unlike all these other guys, he actually *is* Scottish.

He was the doctor on Stargate: Atlantis... had that accent and was quite good. He was the one that told Kirk he wasn't on the list of cadets going on the emergency mission.
Mcgillion was born and lived in scotland paisley for two yrs, then moved away to canada ,but came back to scotland at 11 for 3 yrs .I'm not that familiar with SG:A so I don't know how McGillion would have done. I thought Pegg was fine, though.

Oh okay, yes, I liked him in the couple of Atlantis episodes I've seen. Don't know him well enough to really comment on whether he'd have made a good Scotty though. Especially since I now see Scotty as Simon Pegg's version.
Scroll down to the picture with McGillion's face plastered on Doohan's body. For me, that cinched the idea that he should have had the part. He was pretty good in Atlantis, and I didn't see Pegg bring anything to the screen that McGillion couldn't.

In Trek, he didn't feel at all like Scotty. Urban nailed McCoy, Quinto was at times a dead ringer for Spock, and even Pine pulled off a strong whiff of Kirk, but Pegg just played some comic relief with a faintly Scottish accent.

Think what you like about the comic relief aspects of his performance, that was more than a "faintly" Scottish accent from Simon Pegg.
And in terms of the story they were telling here, I'm okay with him being the comic relief. I hope he's given more to do next time though.
I was also disappointed with Pegg but I'm not sure if it is from an acting issue or a writting one. He did have limited screentime and all interventions were comical. I would have prefer to have Paul McGillion for many reason but what is done is done, Pegg is Scotty and nothing should ever change that.
I thought Pegg was going to be awful, but he surprised me and I enjoyed his Scotty a lot.
McGillion was my first choice, but the script for Scotty's part did not fit his acting style. It would have been quite flat compared to the others.
Every character in this new Trek is a high energy version of the original. McGillion is not a high energy actor.
