Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

A role model for us all. Bill's gut was a road sign to show us the way to happiness.

I think this was a level up in his performance. He definitely had more of a whiff of classic Kirk about him but this is still not TOS Kirk. I certainly feel now that he can do a passable version that gives you little glimpses. He's definitely growing on me.

If you're going to judge Wesley's Kirk on this episode and the last, you might as well judge Shatner's Kirk on Where No Man Has Gone Before and The Man Trap (or Stewart's Picard on all of TNG Season 1).

Wesley is doing a fine job. I see aspects of both Shatner and Pine in his mannerisms. And he adds his own unique flare.

This last episode felt like a fan film. The direction was bad and the acting and dialog uninspired. This guy lacks Shatners charisma.

As usual though, time will tell. Maybe Mr Wesley will be as successful as the Shat was

Everyone lacks Shatner's charisma. Except maybe Austin Powers.

Shatner was never all that. During the NBC run it's not clear that he had much of a fanbase associated with the role. That changed during the 70s as trekkies mined every instant and aspect of the show for whatever they could get out of it. That went hand-in-hand with elevating the supporting cast and day players in importance.

Have we got a storyline here that we as the audience have not worked out yet? Having two appearances of different alternative timeline Kirk might just be coincidence or something else?

I don't buy him as Kirk but it's nice to see so many people do. I'm not a huge TOS fan so maybe don't have the affinity. Or conversely Kirk is just so iconic that buying teill match amd shouldn't try to match.

The worst thing I think about the last episode was why can't we have one of the actual car along for the ride?

People got very upset over the Enterprise finale not being Enterprise yet this had one cast member and none of the usual Trek trappings. I said at the time it felt like a bonus webisode or something.
