I remamber when:
"With DS9 on the air now - GR is rolling in his Grave...JUST SAY NO TO 'DARK TREK'..."
I wonder how DS9 is viewed by a lot of Trek fans these days...?![]()
Actually not. He had the much bigger emotional burden - he was actively working on his whole live, experience, everyone he ever knew - to be completely wiped out. To never even exist in the first place. And he still does it, because it's the right thing to do.Wesley was fine as Kirk, here.
He did. He showed his range. I could appreciate it.Wesley was fine as Kirk, here.
The years may change but indignant and whiny fandom remains consistent.
I actually think there is a lot of Early Season 1 TOS Kirk in the seemingly stunted emotional range. Kirk was very buttoned up, to the point where he would explosively lose his cool (usually with Bones). In particular, there is even a discussion with Spock in enemy Within where Spock outright tells him it's important to the crew that he appear infallible. But you wouldn't notice. Because he has the emotional range of a sponge.
Whereas La'an - which has the much weaker plot of getting & loosing a connection, is the one where you actually experience her feelings through her acting.
(Writing was also a factor. But still.)
I actually kind of loved him. He's closer to the early TOS Kirk I remember- smart, resourceful, wry humor and charm, hopeful, but with an abiding sense of duty and responsibility to his crew, to the mission. (When I was 11 and 12 I was a Kirk girl all the way.)Wesley was fine as Kirk, here.
As played by Paul Wesley, this version of Kirk isn’t a larger-than-life hero; instead, he feels like someone you know. Or, better yet, someone you might aspire to be like.
... “If you actually watch The Original Series, yes, there’s some exaggerated stuff there, but for the most part, Kirk is pretty down-to-earth,” Wesley explains. “He’s not like the caricature people think of, or as big as people have made him out to be in their heads over the years.”
On the Ready Room Wesley says the season is about Kirk's growth towards the character we see in TOS. He comes across as having a good idea of Kirk's trajectory.
