Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

I haven’t hit the groove with Paul Wesley’s take yet, but I must say that I was pleasantly shocked by what a restrained and moderated approach they allowed him to take. Especially with Akiva “Two Members” Goldsman involved, I didn’t think they could resist at least a modest coating of charicature, but it was so refreshingly nowhere to be found.

Rewarched this one recently. Still not sold.

But still, I guess if Nurse Chapel can be rebooted into a total badass then James T. Kirk can become... this.

Curious how he'll come across in season two.

Paul Wesley seemed fairly fine to me as an actor. It's always difficult to judge considering, really, we've only had him in a single episode, and apparently we'll see more of him where he's promised to play a little more shatnery to link the two versions together.

I thought it was a good, solid performance and when he appears a little more interacting with Sam Kirk is definitely in order as it'd finally make his eventual death in Operation - Annihalate! Poignant instead of unintentionally hilarious.

My suspicion is we're going to see some mild retconning in the future. In Menagerie Kirk only met Pike the once during the latter's promotion to fleet captain. I think Pike's foreknowledge of events will see him promoted to Fleet Captain a bit earlier, and him ask for the Farragut to be attached to his fleet to further mentor Kirk directly as opposed to a single meet and greet.

I never found it hilarious, unintentionally or otherwise.

I don't know if it'll be that much of a retcon though. Yes in The Menagerie Kirk said they first met when Pike was promoted to Fleet Captain, but in both of those episodes there were also times where Kirk referred to him as Chris directly in a way that would imply that they did have some further interactions afterwards because referring to someone like that is a very personal way to do so.

Fixed some typos - one particularly nasty too.
