Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

It was not a cameo it lasted 15 mins.

If Shatner was given enough money he would as it would be a chance to recreate his youth.

It's not expensive anymore as even YouTubers are doing it on their home computers as evidenced by recreating the Luke Hamill scene better than the official version.

I get that.
I dont remember Luke's scene in Bobba Fetts Mando episode being 15 minutes. Will have to rewatch it.

Anyhow i dont see the need. After 2009's films fans are now Ok with the Legacy Characters being recast for prequel series as long as they are a decent approximation of the look of the original actors...

For the record, Shamook, the youtuber in question, is a serious AI researcher. He's not using off the shelf software.

After Star Trek 3 I was ok with recasting in Star Trek. CGI replacement of actors is creepy and ineffective. Didn't like it in Star Wars, and don't want it in Star Trek.

I think it was a difficult challenge for the actor to begin his interpretation of one of the most famous & iconic characters in pop culture history in a season finale, and playing a somewhat antagnostic role in relation to the show's lead and, undoubtedly, most charismatic actor on the planet. I thought he done exceptionally well and I really liked him.

I'd also be interested to get his take on how he approached the role. It must be difficult for actors who are playing modern versions of classic characters. You can't mimic the original (or previous) actor but then you can't stray too far away from what was done before. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the role.

Have you or anyone seen else this?

It's amazing and it was done a year ago and now things have advanced even more.

It looks amazing. Kirk Spock and McCoy young again.

Wow
Shatner and Nimoy look like Pine and Quinto, more so Pine as he was in Into Darkness.

Deepfaking dead actors is something I find quite offputting. I'm not wild about the new Kirk choice, but I'd pick it over them doing the Young Luke Skywalker with CG face and AI generated voice from Boba Fett any day.
There was not much uncanny valleys in the above.

That may be true for last year but things are advancing and it would be great for someone to write a script and for someone to do the deepfake characters and new cgi sets like in Mandolrian and combine everything.
Perhaps this board could be used to combine different talents and a fan film made a bit like axanar and then the idea sold to the network.

Could make a lot of money and setup whoever up for life ...

I'm not entirely off-put, but the segment was fun without convincing me that I would want a whole film or series done as a deep fake. As much as I liked Pine's and Quinto's takes, their mannerisms and poise were clearly different than Shatner and Nimoy. Watching Shatner's (what looked like colorized) face making expressions that were not natural to him became jarring as the clip went on.

Same. It's not enjoyable. It's extremely distracting and puts the technology ahead of the actor.

Nope.

I'd rather have an animated series than a Deepfake one!

That makes no sense since it is even more deep deep deep fake than the very close similarity.

Also you would get used to the uncanny valley thing just like you get used to getting watching monochrome blue films.

It just takes time.
