Paul Walker dead at 40

I actually saw the first FF in the the theatre. I have to admit it did stoke my fire for cars higher than it had been. It probably didn't help that I had owned a Mitsubishi Eclipse of the same model year as the lime green one Paul drives in the first part of that movie.

I'd like to thank Paul for the entertainment he's provided over the years. He will be missed.

Some years ago I had come home from work, parked my car about a block and a half away from my building and was walking home. I had two bags of groceries with me so when I saw I would have to walk through a large film crew and equipment I wasn't happy. The sidewalk was partially blocked with people, cable, equipment, etc.

To top it off, there was this tall blonde "movie dude" as I called him at the time, standing in the middle of the sidewalk. His side was facing me as he was staring across the street. My experience with movie people is that they aren't necessarily rude (unless you're interfering with production) but often they do act like neighborhood residents are in their way on a location shoot. As I approached "movie dude" blocking the sidewalk, he heard me walking toward him and to my shock, turned to me and politely apologized for being in the way and stepped aside -- before I could say anything.

He obviously was an actor though I didn't recognize him at the time. It wasn't until much later after seeing pictures of him that realized "movie dude's" name was Paul Walker. All I can say is that I have no trouble believing the people who knew him who say that he was a real down to earth guy. I also think he probably had some good "home training" as we used to call it.

Only ever saw one of his movies, "Timeline" and didn't think it did the book justice, but after my encounter with him, I always rooted for his movies. I was glad his F&F movies were such hits.

So sad to hear about his death (especially for his little girl). RIP.

^Yeah pretty sure he would be a lot more ignored if he wasn't with someone famous. Not that it matters.

Looking at that streetview, sure seems like reckless driving.

I never was a fan and saw him only on couple of movies. But from what I have read, he seemed like a nice guy.

Rest in peace, Mr. Walker.

Unconfirmed reports are starting to filter out that the crash may have been the resault of a mechanical failure. It sounds like there was a massive fluid leak, with a line of fluid on the ground leading up to the crash before the skid marks.

That line of fluid combined with the rapid fire appear consistent with some form of fluid leak. The shop that owned the car when asked said it was not modified by them, so if something failed it was most likely a manufacturer defect.

Few of the official obits seem to be mentioning Walker's leading turns in JOY RIDE or TIMELINE. TIMELINE wasn't a hit, but may actually be his best specific film.

No one's going to remember him for Timeline. It bombed and nobody outside of nerd circles even remembers it.

The F&F franchise, however, is pretty much impossible to be unaware of.

There are reports surfacing that he might have been involved in a drag race prior to the accident.

If true, what a douchebag!

So a passenger who dies in an auto accident may have "been involved" in a prior drag race is a douchebag? Stay classy there.

I liked Paul. Fast & Furious series is one of my many guilty pleasures (I'll admit to liking The Skulls too). It just won't be the same without him.

Rest in peace, brother.

If it's true - like I said - that they were drag racing then absolutely. People who drag race on the streets are some of the biggest kind of douchebags out there that put the public at profound risk. Way to poorly attempt to defend it though, you look so awesome doing that.

Stay classy there.

Stay fucking clueless I guess.

Hehe, good going. Insult a guy for something hey may have done and may have had no real control over, since he was the passenger. And do that in a thread mourning his death.

It's not an entirely unfair point. The guy bragged about driving 185mph on a freeway, that's pretty douchebaggy. On the other hand he at least did a "drive safe" type PSA. But, let's not act like a he didn't have a sense of what "joyride" in a supercar with his race buddy entailed. It's not like his limo driver got him killed or something.

Considering how crucified Trekker (was it?) was around here for driving against doctor's orders, you can't let Paul Walker and this Rodas fellow off the hook just because they died.

Aside from that bit of douchebaggery, and let's face it, 40 is kind of old to still get fast-car boners... it does sound like he was generally a nice guy. We've all known nice guys that drove like morons at some point, right? And hey, they were doing some charity, it's not like they couldn't have thrown a party without raising money for charity. So yeah, if this death really got to you, donate some money to Reach Out Worldwide, and try to drive less shittily. I mean some morons were actually going to the scene of the accident and doing donuts and shit, wtf?
