Paul Walker dead at 40

Not open for further replies.
The garage that owned the car has said that it had suffered a massive power steering fluid leak, and that the driver likely had no steering at the time of the crash. The car was aparently suffering from a number of mechanical issues that day, including engine stalling, and was only a few hundred yards from the shop.

Rumor has is now that another car was involved, which would turn it into the result of an illegal street race.

The rumor going round that this might have been some drag race is the most likely rumor to surface considering the movies he was most famous for. People want to mix fact with fiction.

It was also based on an anonymous phone tip and is inconsistent with both the physical evidence and eyewitness reports. I think some wiseass joker was trolling.

Yeah, the idea of Paul Walker dying in an illegal car race... um, stretches credibility a bit too much, I guess.

That's like a story about Anthony Hopkins having been caught eating human flesh or something. :p

Paul Walker did not die in a drag racing accident. The LAist, (via TMZ) has posted video of the accident as it happened.

There doesn't seem to be any cars directly in front of or behind the Porsche. That could help investigators rule out the theory that the pair had been drag-racing before they crashed. Authorities, however, have said that speed was a likely factor.

So let's drop that useless theory, shall we?

Authorities do seem to think speed had a factor in the accident though.

More important to remember consider: The Porsche Carerra GT is an infamously difficult car to control and drive.

In related news, autopsies of Roger Rodas and Paul Walker are expected to be completed today.

I read that hey need dental x-rays in order to confirm identy because the bodies were so badly burned...

I feel for his daughter.

Autopsies have determined the official causes of death for Paul Walker and Roger Rodas. Rodas, the driver of the vehicle, died of multiple traumatic injuries; Walker, the passenger, died of the combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries, the Los Angeles county coroner's office said Wednesday.

The deaths were ruled to be accidental. Toxicology results are pending, and could take several weeks.

Emphasis mine.

Because there was a long trail of power steering fluid left behind the car in the lead-up to the crash.
And how do they know it was steering fluid, was that announced by the authorities?
Why would a garage say anything when they don't know more than anyone else? They're not in a position to make announcements, they're just speculating and I don't like that.

Yep, I don't think anyone is surprised by the actual cause of death. We could pretty much guess that without an autopsy. Knowing the cause of death is not the same as knowing the cause of the accident though.

The accident occurred near the garage, it's where the fund raiser was held, and if said garage that works on $$$ cars doesn't know what power steering fluid looks like, well.... problem.

I don't seem to recall ever suggesting otherwise. Just sharing the news as it was released/posted this morning.

Also: Pajiba.com has posted a lovely remembrance/tribute/eulogy for Walker today.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Paul Walker and the Working Actor

Has anyone heard a speed estimate for the Porche? I thought I heard something about this on a morning news show a couple of days ago, but what I thought I heard was so outrageous that I won't even repeat it here.

Anyone know?

Another touching story about Walker, from CNN:

CNN wrote:

Stories of Walker's incredible generosity have become a major aspect to coverage of the actor's death.

CNN confirmed one story from a decade ago when Walker noticed a young U.S. soldier shopping with his fiancee for a wedding ring in a Santa Barbara jewelry store.

"The groom was just back from duty in Iraq, and he was going to be deployed again soon and wanted to buy a wedding ring, but he said he just could not afford it," saleswoman Irene King told CNN. "I don't think the soldier realized how expensive those rings are, about $10,000."

"Walker called the manager over and said, 'Put that girl's ring on my tab,'" she said. "Walker left all his billing info, and it was a done deal. The couple was stunned. She was thrilled and could not believe someone did this."

King called it "the most generous thing I have ever seen."
