Paul Newman - 1925-2008

I wonder what his passing does for Pixar's plans for Cars 2 in 2011? It just wouldn't be the same without him as Doc Hudson. (For that matter, George Carlin, who played Fillmore, recently died as well.)
I was wondering the same thing earlier today, although shamefully I had forgotten George Carlin was also in Cars. Considering Pixar's track record, I doubt they'll recast the characters (like I don't think they'll recast Jim Varney's role in Toy Story 3), but what will they do?

I never saw the appeal in Mr. Newman, all those corny songs he wrote for Disney movies were just horrible.

I was watching TCM when they did a short "In Remembrance..." of Paul Newman. It felt like a punch in the gut.

We have lost not only a legendary actor, but a legendary human being. Rest in peace.

My favourite actor, so I'm really saddened by this news. From The Rack and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Hustler and The Colour of Money...R.I.P :(

I will miss him greatly. One of the best actors ever and seemed like a very good man. Also gotta love a guy who was racing hard at his age.

Rest in Peace, Mr Newman :(

Wow. A true legend has passed. :(

RIP, Mr. Newman.

You know, it's getting to be that time. Eventually, names like Eastwood, Nicholson, Freeman, Hackman, Beatty and Redford will be coming up too. :(
You're absolutely correct. I'm dreading those days. I felt like I got gut punched when I heard the first reports of Morgan Freeman's car accident.

:(

As much as I liked him as an actor, I liked him even more for being an actual person rather than just another celebrity.

RIP. :(

I really hope that you are kidding.

Rest in peace Mr. Newman.:(

I've seen most of his movies. There's one that I hardly see mentioned but is my favorite Paul Newman movie: Nobody's Fool. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

Sheesh. Paul, not Randy.

I remember seeing him in Cinemascope on the giant screen in the early 1960's. The man had no trouble filling that screen with his talent.

He once commented that one of the things he was most proud of was being on Nixon's enemy list.

Great talent, great guy, great loss.

I particularly enjoyed one of Newman's later films along side Tom Hanks, Road to Perdition. Newman plays an Irish Mob Boss.

Not unexpected because I knew he was sick and had very little time left.

But still very sad, nonetheless. Paul Newman was one of my first movie star crushes when I was a teen and I'll miss him on the screen.

He also was, by all accounts, a nice, decent, and generous man. The world could use more movie stars like that.

RIP.

Yes, the world could do with a few more like him instead of the self-indulgent poseurs we normally see today.

He'll be missed.

Sad indeed. We have lost to many good actors this year. Now we have lost one of the greatest actors in history and a huge humanitarian as well. I will exclusively buy his newman own salad dressings from now on. Whenever I looked at his products I couldnt help but think that as an actor having a non profit company to benefit those in need, it was just so rare in the hollywood community. He never even wanted the recognition or attention forsuch things. The benefits it gave to others was more than enough for him. Just a great guy all around. RIP :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

You know, when you think about all the great movies he's done, consider this. The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Sting. Four great movies...four American classics. Famous actors are lucky if they have two American classics. Newman had four.

Rest in Peace.

Unfortunately retail stores have already latched onto this. I was at the mall today and stopped by FYE. They uped all the prices on films staring him today.
