Very sad news indeed. A legendary actor, and a man of great charity too. And of course a motorsport fanatic at heart.

Sad news. Also strange. For some reason I always think of him as about the age he was in The Sweet Bird of Youth.

Seriously though, I had seen some interviews and he was really down about losing a step as he's aged in that regard and unable to perform as he once had. Happens to everyone but he seemed to not be at peace about it so perhaps it was his time after a long life. I think my favorite role of his was Cool Hand Luke which I actually only saw for the first time a couple of years ago.

The first movie I saw him in was The Hudsucker Proxy, which was very fun.
He was married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years this year.

He was a legendary star - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, The Verdict, and on and on - and a great humanitarian. He had a good, long life which he lived in full. Rest in peace, Paul Newman.

His passing is truly a shame. A great actor, a great humanitarian, and a great family man, a trifecta you rarely see in Hollywood.
I wonder what his passing does for Pixar's plans for Cars 2 in 2011? It just wouldn't be the same without him as Doc Hudson. (For that matter, George Carlin, who played Fillmore, recently died as well.)

Almost certainly the greatest movie star of all time and one of cinema's greatest actors. Plus he was simply a great man. RIP Cool Hand Luke - the silver screen seems a bit duller suddenly ...
