Well, mileage will vary.

With Kirk, it was recognizing what might have been, what they could have been, rather than what they were in that moment. They were friends, but only at the beginning. And that beginning was snuffed out (at least in the moment).

The Khan scream was shit, but the rage rampage? Did you miss the '09 movie? Screaming and then hitting people who are troubling him is a behaviour he's struggled with since school, and he did it on the bridge of the Enterprise too.

In fact, Nimoy stated he didn't play Spock as cooly logical, but someone who kept his emotions under control with logic.

Spock's own pop culture perception by audiences is actually not complete.

The scene in Trek 2009 where Spock got violent on the bridge was aping a scene from the episode "This Side of Paradise." The fight made sense in the context of that story. The mimicry in the Abrams film was just fan service.

So Spock Prime vowed never to reveal future information? Except when he gave Scotty and all of Starfleet a magical equation for transwarp beaming that allows people to apparently beam anywhere in the galaxy that they would like. And he violates that oath again by telling NuSpock all about Khan.

The joke I often make about that scene.

"I have sworn a solemn vow never to discuss the future with you. But since you're asking, I'll make an exception, just this once."

Two of the biggest name/in highest demand members of the cast are both saying the cast are excited to make it soon, so that’s a big change from them not having heard anything about it a few weeks ago.
