Yeah, Nicholas Meyer, the director and writer, didn't really know what Star Trek was when he was hired to direct WoK.I believe the creator of the STWOK was not a Trekophile - Harve Bennett? And this movie is considered one of the best, if not THE best Trek film.

Couldn't be in better hands. If this means that Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are back for (and at the same time Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are OUT of) ST4, that's GREAT NEWS!!!![]()

How so ?Couldn't be in better hands.
How so ?
I like Pegg's stuff and although I think he's badly miscast as Scotty, because of who he is I had faith in him delivering a script that had a lot more in common with classic Trek.
What we got was another identikit action adventure movie indistinguishable in tone from the two JJ movies, but not as good...
I like Pegg as Montgomery Scotty.![]()
I think you just gave me next year's Halloween name change.I think he's pretty good. His accent can slip at times, but overall I don't mind his Scotty. It's the big three I think they nailed, especially Urban's Bones.
I'm genuinely happy for you that you got that, because that's a big part of what I wanted from it....that also had the characters nailed down in a much more pleasing fashion than the first two, no ridiculous plot holes, subtle easter eggs/callbacks, great humour, touching emotional moments etc...

I just found it flashy and vacuous.
I'm actually hoping for a budget slashed to $80/$100m - the upshot being a lot of it would have to be shot on existing ship sets. Therefore a more 'talky' and character/plot driven movie - they'd have to save money wherever possible and hold the effects money for where it really counts.I suspect the fourth one, assuming it gets made will be somewhat different I think. There'll be no 185million dollar budget for sure.

It wouldn't solve all of my issues, but there's not much that can be done about the casting choices...
Urban is perfect and Quinto pretty good. Saldana is O.K. and although I didn't like Pine much, he's grown into it somewhat.I can't see them going that low, that's TNG movie territory (adjusted for inflation of course), and we all saw how cheap and behind the curve they looked. I think it'll be more in the region of 120million, 150 max. But I agree it would force the team to get creative with the plot, like TWOK. I've said it several times before on these boards, I think a tense submarine style thriller would work really well. I don't think the next one will be an overblown OTT blockbuster, the money just won't be there, and to be frank, I don't think the audience is there either.
Are you not happy with the rest of the cast? I think it's been one of the Kelvin movies success stories.

I didn't like Cho and Yelchin, and much as I like him, Pegg's bloody awful.
