Paramount fires Brad Weston, production spearhead for Star Trek

I wonder if they will pull back the budget of Star Trek XII now that they know they have a built-in audience for the next one?
Much as I dislike the new Battlestar Galactica, it's true that "what happened before will happen again."

Hollywood hasn't escaped the economic downturn, far from it.

Younger people in their positions equal less expense for the studio.
Raft, do YOU have a corporate job? You seem to understand the mentality so well... ;)
:bolian:

You found me out.

Unlikely. Brad Weston (together with Gail Berman) headed up Paramount Pictures back in 2006 when that attrocity happened. They were relatively supportive of Star Trek. For instance, Berman persauded the chief culprit responsible behind the franchise's forced hibernation, to extend the rights by 12 months and allow JJ Abrams' his shot at making an 11th movie. The order to destroy remaining ENT sets would've come down the line from within the TV side of the status quo - CBS, current owner of the Star Trek brand. Many of the costumes and props had already passed through the hands of Christies' auction house at this point. Looking back, it was a cynical move to squeeze every last cent from a once beloved institution, glossed over by proclaiming it to be the ultimate 40th Anniversary gift to the fans. Wrong. Not cancelling the TV series in the first place would've been that.

Does anyone have a subscription to Hollywood Reporter? I'd like to know what the full article has to say...Dennis hinted there was a lot in there.

I think bulldozing the set of Enterprise was a good thing, making sure no new episodes were ever made of that POS.

I would have kept the Enterprise sets. They could have been slightly redressed and used for the Kelvin scenes in STXI.

Agreed. If I had been in charge, after I bulldozed them, I would have salted the earth on which they stood.
