Painting

^^ That's a fascinating and frightening tale. My trip to the Amazon for a copy will no doubt be less Sam Spade and more Indiana Jones.

Congrats for being published. :bolian:

I made two new paintings.

One of an abstract planet/stars.

And one of a tree on a dark summer night:

I like the planet. Are you planning on doing more Astronomical themes?

The Summer night is great, too. Reminds me of sleeping out in the backyard when I was a kid. Very relaxing.

Wow lots of nice work in here.

Is there a thread just for drawings/art work too? I draw but don't paint.

This Thread is fine for that. We've had a variety of art types Posted here already. Let's see what you've got.

Ok..heres somthing I did in flash for fun. Give it a minute to load.

WARNING: It has music so don't have your speakers at full blast...unless you want it.

I know this is "Star Wars on Star Trek" but I love both.

I think there should be a reboot of The Joy Of Painting with blab as host. :techman:

If she's up for it, perhaps tsq can tag-team hosting duties. :)

(This is meant as a true compliment because: 1) both are EXCELLENT painters; 2) TJOP totally rocked. :) )

I did another one that's a sort of nebula wormhole type thing with the Satellite of Love in front of it.

It's hanging in my kitchen right now til someone decides to buy it.

I don't know if this counts as astronomy but I also made a deep night sky with tiny forest as well a while back.

Which I really need a better picture of now that I look at it again. The sky doesn't have that weird red tint it's just black up top. Stupid light refracting.

Nice work. I like the the detail; and the shading and light are very well done. :bolian:

Heh. The good ol' Satellite of Love. It looks like it's emerging into our Universe. We could sure use it. :D

Still nice, though. I love those scenes of the country night sky.

I went back to my bread and butter as it were and made a tree.

I should do an experiment to see what has a greater affect on how my trees turn out, the music I'm listening to my mood or possible a comb of the two.

Hmm. Put on "Bungle In The Jungle" while painting and see what happens.

That's a beautiful tree, as always. I like how the fractal pattern of the limbs combines with the pattern of the clouds to create a feeling of electricity.

Maybe you should combine two themes and paint trees on an asteroid or something. ;)

Ok, blab, I've done it. I've painted. I started my own thread, more for beginner technical advice, but now that I've got something to show for myself I guess it's appropriate to put them in here.

This has been an interesting experience. I am someone who can draw anything as exactly as I see it. Using a pencil or pen I am in control and can make very realistic images. With a paintbrush I am starting from scratch, and that has been at once terrifying and liberating. My first two pictures aren't great, but they're not too horrible! Any constructive criticism is welcome!

I love your clouds.

I really have no criticism because it's just such a learning curve. You just play and see what comes out. Yours have a very whimsical much more abstract feel than I make but that's the fun thing about painting, everyone is different.

I find myself jealous of other people's talent and visions but you got to do what you do which for me involves a ton of trees.

^^ Other people are also jealous of your talent, including me. The trees are always greener in the other person's yard.

Wow, deja vu all over again. I think it's very nice for a first painting. Actually very nice for an umpteenth painting. Were the faces deliberate?

Second picture I ever painted! :
Very arresting. The angle of the clouds really grabs the eye. Is that fireworks in the middle?

Thanks, guys. The clouds were interesting to paint, I haven't decided whether or not I enjoyed painting them.

Blab, I love your trees! I also love your forests. :)

those are lovely. I love this type of art. The first one reminds me of impressionism.
