No, I haven't kept up with it. I wasn't very good, you see. My talents were elsewhere.

Too bad; I'd like to see samples of your work. I'm reminded of Fred Hembeck, who started out hoping to be a traditional comic book artist and ended up creating his own unique niche in the hobby. If you look around at many of the Indy publishers or newspaper comics, you'll see a lot of engaging artists-- from James Kolchaka and Matt Groenig to Johnny Hart and Scott Adams-- who might not technically be considered "good" artists, but who are appealing and well-loved. You don't have to be George Perez, you know. Check out this clown.

I am actually amazed more by all you who do painting on the computer. Maybe it's because I am used to a computer being set up with a right hand mouse while I am left handed but I feel I have so much more control in real life.

I can't do art one the computer with a mouse, I use a tablet, they can range from inexpensive to outrageously expensive, depending on size. Check out Wacom Tablets

Give it a shot. If you enjoyed it as a kid, you'll probably enjoy getting back into it as an adult; and you may do better just because you're older.

I found it very difficult at first, and Dama's advice was invaluable; it was extremely gratifying once I started getting good results.

Why so much green? I find that a little distracting and over powering.

Awe, thanks Jadzia. I wish I were better at capturing a dogs eyes but sadly that will elude me for a long time.

Just kidding. Very nice. And I really like the snowy landscape, especially the way the snow coats the branches and the blue cast to the ground cover; it really captures the serenity of a scene like that. You should scan all these and put up a gallery on deviantArt.

It does make me just a touch sad how much gets lost when you scan a painting though.

You have a good eye for color and texture. I love the way you laid the paint thinly in Groucho's suit, so that the texture of the canvass gives it a tweedy feel.

And thanks to you too! The truth is, though, I don't consider myself much of a painter. I think part of it is that I rarely paint, so I haven't much practice, but the main thing is that I just don't feel in control of a brush. I'm really wary of wielding one, and admire you for picking one up!
I do most of my work in Copic markers these days, which actually give a very watercolor look to my drawings. This is a color experiment I did when I first tried them out:

I can never pull off the watercolor look. I just make too much of a mess.
