Painting

^^ Excellent! And Post the results here. :bolian:

The Lily is painting over her freckles. They're illustrations from a "Fairy Tale" I wrote a while back.
Oh, now I see. Cute. :D Can you Post your fairy tale, or are you planning to publish it?

I still need to finish so many, but I keep getting wedding dress painting orders. Sigh
Well, that's pretty good that there's that much interest.

Let's just say I don't forsee myself ever getting published. But I have the not quite so rough draft here if you want to read it.

If I see one more white dress I'm gonna scream! Okay so maybe it isn't that bad but I'd love to get someone who wore something different, a little color or something.

Great, I'll read it. As for getting it published, check your PM box.

Paint a Betazoid wedding. :D

Once upon a time they used to wear black as a symbol of the hardships life would bring to the new bride. So yeah, paint a black wedding dress for fun. ;)

You're so demanding. Maybe I should paint The Grapes of Wrath. Or a Raisin in the Sun. :D

I did this in calligraphy pen before I vectored it into illustrator... so I guess this fits as "painting"...

In an effort to stylize the Filipino script of Baybayin while expressing my American upbringing, I needed to focus on the form of the Baybayin characters and translate them to something I can identify with. It wasn't just enough to simply write an English word into Baybayin, because the esoteric form of the Baybayin characters simply isn't identifiable to a large mass audience. Taking from communication design aspects, the concept became apparent: to create an identifiable image using the Baybayin characters.

Combining calligraphy, graffiti handstyling, typography techniques and letter theory, I’ve been able to translate the Baybayin characters into English-like letter forms, while still retaining most of the distinguishing key elements of their Baybayin forms. Spelling out city names, the cities highlighted are home to a high population of Filipinos, and I felt that this would help represent Filipino Americans in two ways: the bold imagery of the uniquely Filipino script of Baybayin, and the pride of city-claiming, popular among American youths. This first series concentrates on a few California cities, but will eventually include more American cities as well as other countries aside from the Philippines.

Finally, I am pleased present to you all, the Baybayin City Series - California

The Baybayin characters spell out the city name phonetically (or a translation thereof), for example, the San Francisco Baybayin characters read “San Pdansesko” and Los Angeles characters read "Los Ang-he-les". Each city piece was a puzzle, trying to figure out how to form these characters into English letters while still retaining the unique traits of each character. I attribute much of my character understanding to my old graffiti days when understanding letter formation theory was a necessity to express your style... among other things.

Bla-dow!

^^ Those are great, eye-catching logos. It's really impressive the amount of thought and depth you put into your art. You really use the multicultural approach to create synergy, rather than just combination. :bolian:

Ouch. I should probably avoid those nude Betazoid weddings, now that you mention it....

Well, I read the Fairy Tale. Very sad. That'll learn 'em, though....

"Sariwa" is the Tagalog word for "Fresh" (as in, freshly made, fresh ingredients, yo that shit is fresh). In Baybayin (Alibata), this would phonetically translate to "Sa-Di-Wa", as shown. This photo isn't about graffiti or tagging, rather, it's about the technique used to write the Baybayin characters called "flaring". Using your wrist and distance from the wall to control the size of the spray, one can achieving lines that go from fat to skinny using this technique. Also, with the utilization of a farther spray, a mist effect can be observed on the fatter end of the line to achieve a shadowy look.

But, like all things fresh, it eventually goes stale. In this case, it gets buffed (painted over). Immediacy living a life of impermanence. That's life.

If you wanna see how it looks like when one flares with a spray can, just click here. It's harder than it looks... try it for yourself and you'll see.

You got something against flowers don't you? I bet you regularly buy a bouquet just to snack on them.

I tried something a bit different by taking two things I like doing and combining them. Mostly abstract stuff with branches:

^That's breathtakingly beautiful. How many times can I tell you I love your work? That it has some really unique qualities? That there is a refreshing aspect to it?
Because I do, it has, and it does!

You're just trying to make me blush aren't you? Well it is working.

It's kinda funny how I find myself loving more the projects that took a bit less hard work and were just more fun (and also blue, I love anything blue). I don't know how people can make a living just make the same painting over and over to order. I'd go insane.

But can I do it in Photoshop? :rommie:

I like nice, humble flowers; not those vain, petty flowers.

That's great. I love how the bird is the focus of all the lines and curves; and the sky is beautiful. Very van Gogh-ish.

You could come close, but you're going to have a hard time doing it. I've tried various paint brushes and wacom settings, and it's rather difficult because with the spray can you're controlling both pressure and line thickness.

I suppose the route to go would be to vector out a solid outline with the pen tool, then rasterize, then mask/erase parts to create the flare effect... but even then it may look disingenuous.

I liked the bird so much I made it a little bookend. A bit smaller than the original and this time I tried to do more gray and white and incorporate some pink.

Forgive the crappy picture. I'm just too lazy to drag my easel outside:

Interesting. Very different. My first impression of this one is that he's flying away from an approaching forest fire.

I'm not psychologist, but you are one warped individual Mr grape man if you see forest fires everywhere you go.

(Good thing I didn't mention that I see a figure of a woman in the smoke.

Usually I keep all the boring wedding dresses and stuff to myself (and whoever I'm painting them for of course) but I was recently commissioned to paint an Indian wedding outfit and I just love how it turned out:

Only took about 5 hours to do all that detail.
