P/C run amok...

No idea where to post this, but I realized something yesterday.

You see, I had my first epee lesson last night (I've been fencing foil for almost two years). Through my coach during that lesson, I learned that epee is one of the deepest mind games ever. More so than foil or saber.

Driving home, I thought of Picard and his fencing. In the first season, they showed him fencing saber. Picard doesn't seem much a saber fencing (unless you're counting Action Picard). In the sixth season, they showed him fencing foil (that, I could see). But epee? Captain Picard would be a seriously brilliant epee fencer.

And Beverly? She should fence. She's a dancer and has long legs and she's smart to boot. Makings for a great fencer! Long legs means long lunge, dancing means grace.

...and back to your unscheduled slash fest... *bows out*

Oh, Beverly should definitely fence. Gates McFadden actually can, and she was furious that all she got to do in QPid was to break a pit over some guy's head. Personally I think the fact that she was six months pregnant at the time may have had something to do with the fact that she didn't get more action in that episode. But generally speaking, I have no idea why they never had her fencing with Picard. Perhaps it was considered to be a character trait unique to him?

Does verbal fencing not count? ;)

To be fair though, Picard wasn't actually shown fencing anyone very often. He was shown taking on a random crewman back in the first season, then Guinan in "I, Borg" ... I think that that may have been it. Plus, I think that their breakfasts are a more conducive environment for talking.

Her being pregnant really might've been why. You aren't supposed to fence when you're pregnant.

And for now showing much fencing...maybe. In the original script for that first season bit, Picard was supposed to be fencing Riker. All I know is that they really screwed up the actual fencing both in that bit (you never reverse positions with your opponent) and the other bout with Guinan...it wasn't so much screwing it up (that one was much better) as it was Picard making the touch she got against him the other week as a big deal. Unless a touch is pretty spectacular (we're talking outstanding tactics and some acrobatics thrown in), winning a bout is a bit of a bigger deal.

And the verbal fencing always made for great entertainment. :)

Though, you can (and we do) talk during bouts, at least when in club. There's storytelling, joking, smack talk.

I don't know that I would see fencing as a venue for talk, exactly. Rather, in my experience, I find that when people are interested in one another, they try to convert the other person to their own interests. Beverly tried to get Jean-Luc to act; similarly, I can see him trying to teach her to fence. Or perhaps, to ride. Just another excuse to spend time together. :)

This is true. My husband starting fencing a month after we got married. It's because he liked the idea of fencing, wanted to spend more time with me, or wanted to stab me.

Or all three.

Wait. There's a double meaning in stab. :vulcan:

Beverly tried to drag everyone into her amateur dramatic shenanigans. "Mr Worf there's an opening for you in my workshop".

In fact offering Picard the part of the butler is probably not going to score her any P/C points.

Specially that look she had after the door shut. Wtf?

It's nearly as painful as the end of Ep III of SW. "Nooooooooooooo!"

^ makes no sense to me. She dumped him? :wtf: Why?
I didn't think she dumped him...
I think it was, for once, exactly as she said... Beverly was afraid. I also don't think that she intended to slam the door in his face quite as thoroughly as she did; her regretful look in the hallway proves that. As we've discussed before, Beverly really wants to be pursued a bit. She didn't want to hear "maybe now that we know we have these feelings". She didn't want to hear "and now we're friends". She wanted to hear "Beverly, I've loved you for twenty years, and I love you now." Fair? Maybe not. But she wasn't going to take the risk unless Picard did first, and frankly, he didn't.

I wonder what his dream was about...
HOT SEX, of course. Or possibly Vash. Take your pick.

After this post, we'll only have nine more to go. Do you think that we can hit one thousand today? :)

And frankly he didn't get much of a chance. It's more likely he was building up to a declaration with "maybe now that we know we have these feelings", testing the water perhaps, but conscious that now they no longer had the neurological link, he couldn't take her thoughts on the matter for granted anymore.

She shut the door on him long before he got to "Beverly, I've loved you twenty years ago, and I love you now". Poor sod. I really do think he'd have got there you know.

But then we'll be clanged. It will be the end of an era. :(

zzzzzzzz oh sorry force of habbit.

Are you going to start a new thread or just wait until we run this one into the ground?

^But then we get to start fresh again yeah? I'm pretty sure I've argued all sides during this thread (though no-one's noticed  ) I'd like to think I can snipe all over again in a new thread.

Oooh, renewed sniping. I hadn't thought of that. I discovered the other day that my best male friend (other than the one I'm married to) is a P/Cer. I knew he was a Trek fan, but had no idea about the P/C thing. Happened while I was watching Attached and IMed him yelling about the ending.

And he knew the ending. Straight away, AND started complaining.

It was a good day. :)

I'd like to see this thread hit one thousand, somehow... So I will wait, especially if we can make those last three posts in the next few minutes! (Hint, hint) ;)

Who would think that P/C was worth all these posts? Well, of course, it isn't, but there you go...

Here's the bottom line:

I think they should have gotten together eventually. Any questions?
