P/C run amok...

^ I like it.

Explains Jack turning up in the 'hallucination'. I always thought that was pretty shifty. All makes sense.

I'm not sure which is worse: the idea that it might have been a virgin birth, or the idea that it might *not* have been a virgin birth.

But considering the Traveller's powers, how might Wesley have been conceived in this case?
The Traveller evidently had the power to take on other forms as he was masquerading around as that shamen guy for a time. I've always suspected he was pretending to be Jack in that dreamquest sequence too. So really, he only need to pull off that trick once for Beverly's benefit. ;)

I do remember reading a story where Jack Crusher was really a member of the Q continuum, and that explained Wesley's powers (not to mention, I guess, why Jack was so wonderful, handsome, brilliant, and all the rest of it...). The Traveller idea makes much more sense, though. The only thing is that I can't decide whether that would make the Traveller's relationship with Wesley more or less creepy. :wtf:

Before this thread gets more out of hand, here's a straightforward question for all the P/Cers out there: what would you have done with the P/C relationship? If you could have had a word with TPTB, when and how would you have liked them to get together? If you wish they had had a long term relationship, how do you think the show should have dealt with that? Or should it have all been in the movies?

This isn't just a hypothetical question for me. In considering future fanfiction possibilities, I really can't decide what tack I should take in rewriting what we saw onscreen. So, give me some advice. :)

Mmmmm..Good question about how to resolve P/C. I think the years of waiting for them to get together and nothing happening has made me quite realistic as far as what I would have wanted TPTB to do.

For example, in Nemesis I think you could have resolved the story quite satisfactorily without taking over the whole film (not that that would have been a bad thing mind you ;))

Anyway it could have been done as follows:

Beverly is going to Starfleet medical. She feels that she has reached the end of her journey on Enterprise and wants a new challenge.
Jean Luc on the other hand feels a responsibility to help the new first officer, crew etc. settle in to the job. He's not ready to return to Earth.
Obviously they both recognise that this is a crossroads - and it makes them think about what they mean to each other. There follows a nice romantic scene; candlelight, smooching etc. when they realise that they are in fact more than 'just good friends' (I mean I could have told them that years ago !)
This could end with Beverly going to Starfleet Medical and Jean Luc staying on the ship but with a final scene where Beverly says that whenever he's ready to join her she'll be there. Followed by kissing - obviously!

I think that could have fitted quite well in Nemesis without affecting too much of the story and leaving Jean Luc on the ship to make it easy for them to do post-Nem books etc.

I don't think I'm asking for much really?

That's a very nice scenario, ensign blue, and one which it certainly would have been no trouble for TPTB to accomodate.

My own ideal is a little different; I've never been able to accept the movies as being "official" TNG, and so I tend to disregard them completely. I would have started by making Attached a little more subtle... still having Beverly afraid to start a relationship, but allowing it to permanently change the way that they think about one another. Then, if you watch that kiss in All Good Things... well, why does she walk away? I mean, really? I would prefer to think that they got together after that, whatever it meant for their possibly-divorced future.

After they have spent seven years (with a few detours along the way) waiting for one another, I would find it a bit too depressing to think that at the end of Nemesis, Beverly just says (basically) that she's happy to continue to wait for him. Although the kissing would be nice! :)

On another note, I've finally finished another of my fanfic projects: my P/C version of the episode Tapestry. I've started a thread on the subject in the Fanfic forum, or you can just read it here:

"Pearl" :angel:

My aspirations for P/C are fairly straight-forward. They overcome whatever the hell it is that is stopping them from having HOT SEX and develop a proper grown-up relationship. I don't especially need to see this in action. I certainly don't want to turn trek into some soap-fest P/C will-he-save-her or do his duty every week. The occasional 'I'll be a bit late for dinner' will do for me - I don't want to move in with them (c.f. Worf/Dax).

Naraht, I thought your story "Pearl" was great! I think that "Tapestry" is a great ep, and "Pearl" took it into a great P/C direction. I wish there was more at the end, but a wonderful character piece nonetheless. Bravo!

If I was going to have brought them together I'd probably have just made "Attached" the penultimate episode and have them start a relationship there. "All Good Things" would still work then, and fans would have the satisfaction of seeing them getting together without having to worry about too much "soap opera".

^That would've been good.
Then they could've actually gotten MARRIED!!!
"On a very special Star Trek: The Next Generation..." :)

I second this. What a great story. I look forward to the next one.

They could have been together without the show turning into a soap opera. One of my other favorite sci-fi shows had the commander and doctor together and the relationship (most of the time) was secondary to the main story. JMHO

'scuse me for barging in like this *nervously looking around the room* but I need some help with the resident redhead. Can someone point me to episodes in which she kisses someone? (Outside of The Host and All Good Things) I'm a walking dictionairy on anything Troi, but I'm lacking in the Crusher department, sorry.

So any suggestions would be much welcomed! Thanks :)

There's Allegiance, Attached, and Sub Rosa. I'm blanking on any others... man that's sad, The Bev needed more kissin'!

Allegiance! *runs to check it out* Thanks :) And Attached too? I thought they didn't actually kiss in that one. Then again, it's been years since I saw that eps.

I agree with you though, she did need more of the good stuff

Okay, a new question ... which scene or episode do you consider the worst of P/C, for whatever reason?

I select the concluding scene of "Attached" (just so that we can get that one out of the way). ;)

The worst from my point of view is actually in First contact when Beverly blindly follows the Captain's orders without question and it's Lily who has to talk him round with the Moby Dick speech. It's totally out of character for Beverly, and while the scene with jean Luc and Lily is good, as a P/C scene it would have been even more emotional - and meaningful to those of us who've watched TNG.
