Overlooked franchises you'd like to see movies of...

Phantom

Captain
What are yours?

I for one wish TSR (and later Wizards of the Coast) hadn't so badly mishandled the Dungeons and Dragons property. Some of the books (esp the early ones) would make fantastic films. I'm thinking specifically of Ed Greenwood's "Spellfire" duology and just about anything Elaine Cunningham wrote for the Harpers sub-line. Arilyn Moonblade would rip it up as a female-lead action character.

Still on the subject of D&D and related, the first Dragonlance trilogy still cries out for justice to be done for it. Margaret Weis Productions put a hole in it's repuation with the half-assed animated effort at adapting part of the first book, but the material itself is first rate.

Lastly I'd think a dystopian future project like Shadowrun would fit right in with the times.

A lot of Forgotten Realms novels would make great popcorn movies. A Drizzt Do'Urden live action movie would be amazing to see, but the racial undertones/overtones of the character and the Drow race make it nearly impossible to film or adapt in a sensitive way.

I think Warner Bros. has the rights to the Pern books, but I haven't heard any reports of movement on that property recently. Those would (will) be great.

Remo (NOT the film, faithful to the books) and must feature Chiun murdering people because they interrupt his "beautiful dramas".

^The Dresden Files is going to be on TV again from what I hear, hopefully this time a more faithful adaptation.

As is the Myst series of games, I would have prefered the fan driven Ti'ana prequel based on the book went ahead though.

Jason of Star Command..... a childhood favorite of mine, made into a much more seriously taken sci-fi action/space fantasy adventure movie. Not dark or stark sci-fi.... just a good action/adventure romp.... or perhaps a movie series. :)

If we're talking literature, I want a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser movie. Dark Horse had the film rights about a decade ago, and they announced plans for a film and a comic book series, and nothing has ever materialized.

If we're talking television, I want a movie that resolves NBC's Dracula.

Maybe better off as a miniseries, but I'd love to see Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards series brought to the screen.

I read the Spellfire books but wasn't all that impressed. They weren't bad, but didn't really grab my imagination the way others did.

Some of the Harpers novels would make decent movies. The Dark Sun series could be interesting, as well.

A friend loaned me her copy of Dragons of Autumn Twilight in 1985. By the time I got my own copy 2 weeks later, I'd re-read her copy at least 3 times. That was my first introduction to AD&D fiction, or indeed any fantasy fiction that was written for adults, and it just blew me away. Raistlin was my favorite character, and I don't think that even to this day there have been many RPG-based fantasy-lit characters as complex as he is. Just when you decide to hate him, he shows kindness to a gully dwarf. And when you think he's turned a new leaf to becoming a nicer person, he'll turn around and do something completely despicable. Even though he turned to the Black Robes, there are still some very interesting moral grey areas there.

Dragons of Autumn Twilight, at least, deserves a movie - and not some cheaply-made, shoddily-written effort, either. It would be ideal if the entire 7 core novels could be made into movies (Autumn Twilight, Winter Night, Spring Dawning, the 3 Dragonlance Legends novels, and Dragons of Summer Flame), but since Autumn Twilight is a more or less complete story on its own with a satisfying ending, that would be great.

I also have the game modules that came out in the '80s, and some of them included sheet music for the songs in the novels. I play the organ, so I thought I'd give them a try... and found that "Est Sularus" is a beautiful piece of music. It's quite suited to the organ, and would be amazing if played by a full orchestra.

Another movie I'd like to see is a final conclusion to the Crow: Stairway to Heaven TV series. It had been given the go-ahead for a second season so they ended the first season on a cliffhanger. And then stuff happened and the show was canceled. The producer tried to get a 2-hour TV movie project approved so they could wrap up the story somehow, but that never happened.

3rd only to Transformers and He-Man, the 80s cartoon I most wanted a GOOD live action movie of is Bravestarr. I don't know how they'd handle a robot talking horse. But I'd love to see that world on screen.

And since we might be at the beginning of the golden age of video game movies, I would love a Baldur's Gate movie. That would be an insane fantasy flick I think.

Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone' books are ones I've always wanted to see. After LotR, GoT and so on the time has probably never been better.
