Outcasts (BBC) series 1 discussion thread

Well they were bothered in the night by a group, and I've postulated my theory in spoiler text further up, I do think he likely killed his wife though, he seemed to have no compunction about killing anyone he thought had betrayed him. I think he probably realised this in the end given that he didn't kill his son, and instead opted for death by cop.

Missed it - I expect there'll be a repeat. I did catch the last two minutes or so and was somewhat put off by the orange pistol - what, they had to use safe-coloured airsoft guns and couldn't (or couldn't be bothered to) repaint them?

Hmmm. Not bad. Very well made, with fine performances. But no stand out characters so far - they're all a bit dull. Realistic, I suppose - but not engaging enough as characters, for me. Some intriguing plot threads that might get very interesting as it pans out. Plus, Annoying Child Who's Obsessed With Tigers/That Poem Which Probably Foreshadows An Important Revelation. I'll stick with it.

Well they had a lot of other guns that were just black. I beleive these days real guns can be produced in an array of colours (for whatever reason) but it might just have been an attempt to make it look a bit more futuristic maybe? Bamber's character had a white SA80 I think earlier...

2nd ep was still pretty good, and I didnt miss Bamber all that much. I think it could do with a 42 minute runtime though as opposed to the full on 60. There's a bit of chuffa going on.

Well I liked episode 1, but it did feel a trifle plodding at times.

No such problems with episode 2. I thought that was excellent; Fleur, Cas, Jack, the Irish kid...heck the whole cast seemed much more alive this time around.

And wow, I was wrong, the ACs weren't plague ridden kids, nice touch! I also admire them for making me spend the entire episode thinking
oh shit that isn't Lily--note she never seemed to react when anyone said her name--what a cheap trick, and it turns out it was Lily all the time!

Liking Rudi, and that Julious guy's trouble with a captial T...reminds me somewhat of Baltar.

Got a bit more back story about Cas' character as well...not the first time he's killed anyone then?

Looking forward to episode 3!

Yeah, I was thinking Julius Berger = Gaius Baltar as well; being a creepy religious leader preying on women and all. With the cloning and memory downloading technology, I can almost see this series as a precursor of nuBSG.

Using an image of our Moon as one of the moons of Carpathia was very lazy though.

4.4m for episode 1 - not sure if that includes HD viewers as well.

Not sure how that will sit with the Beeb, it seems low, but then it was on at 9pm and beat The Biggest Loser over on ITV.

I enjoyed the second episode and agree that Bamber wasn't really missed. The pacing was better, the introduction of Mabius' character promises a bit more tension and things don't seem to have gone down the route that seemed obvious in the first episode.

I wonder if those figures include iPlayer as well, they're unlikely to be final numbers. I guess the big test is how many returned for the second episode. I think it'll be a shame if ep 2's ratings really dived because it was loads better, like you say the pacing was better and stuff that seemed obvious in ep 1 really wasn't. I think the show's much better written than the first episode suggested.

Apparently it's 1.1m down 17% share so the share is about the same even with the drop.

Being a bit thick here, but does that mean roughly the same % of the viewing population watched it last night as Monday, just that the overall number of people watching telly was smaller?

Yeah, pretty much. 17% of all people watching TV watched it last night, while 17.9% of all people watching TV watched it the first night.

Cool thanks for confirming that!

Looks like I was wrong, it dropped to 3.32m but it was only 13% share, 8.2m (29.2%) were watching Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and 1.04m (5.1%) were watching How TV Ruined Your Life. So it looks like Channel 4 are killing it with that Gypsy show.

God what a world we live in!

I'm not sure why the BBC put it on Monday and Tuesday? Is it on both days next week or just Monday does anyone know? I can understand the Monday/Tuesday thing with a self contained two parter like silent Witness or Waking the Dead, but not so much with this?

When do they add in iplayer figures?

^Well it'll probably be minimum 2 weeks, could be a month cos you can download and watch any time up to 30 days. Don't know why Monday/Tuesday but it is next week as well, though it looks like it's not the week after.
