"Out of character moments" in TNG ?

Troi turning into a bitch in The Loss.

Geordi seriously hitting on Yar in the Naked Now

Wesley being a jerk in Journey's End

Wesley being a jerk in Journey's End
He and La Forge were both being jerks in 'Sarek' but a lot of weird things happened in that episode, like Picard and Riker yelling at each other at the bridge.

In 'Night Terrors' a lot of out of character things happen, like Worf telling Deanna he is afraid and thinks of taking his own life.

But these are all part of the plot in those episodes...

I think some of us is missing the gist of the question. Plus some (aside from the ones that were part of the pilot like in Sarek) can be easily explained away. I always thought there was a side of Picard nobody had seen, a side he hid since being stabbed in the heart or at least since early in his career before he made lieutenant.

Out of character: Picard laughing after being stabbed in 'Tapestry' and huge knife sticking out from his chest. But he was still young...

Although, would anyone of us know how we would react if it happened to us... I think I would scream OUCH!

I think ordinarily, a Klingon would never admit being afraid to anyone.

The episodes where something is making the crew act strange are fun to watch.

But the ones where there is no outside influence and the person acts out of character are the interesting ones.

Wesley behaving like a jerk came out of left field until they explained why later on in the episode. Even then it didn't explain his attitude.

Wesley wasnt sure if he wanted to be in Starfleet and the academy any more. So what does that have to do with his weird attitude?

Geordi was being sort of a jerk to Scotty, being short tempered and rude. So we hope it's an out of character moment, unless Geordi is usually that way?

^I thought Scotty was the much ruder character in their early exchanges, assuming Geordi and everyone else had made mistakes that would quickly endanger the ship rather than that the conditions changed.

All of the episode "Sub Rosa." For years we see that Beverly Crusher is not only a doctor, but a scientist, and even at times a command officer due to her bridge rank of full commander. Are we really supposed to accept that she would just fall under the spell of some "ghost?" What did they explain it as, an anaphasic life form (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)? Each time I watch TNG all the way through I come to that episode and I just feel bad for Gates that her one Crusher-centric episode of the final season was garbage. Not one Crusher moment in that episode was true to the character.

You could say the out of character moment was Worf saying "sorry", but it was necessary for the homage.

I always took it as an insincere "sorry," like his previous display of humorously insincere politeness: "Good tea...nice house."

I always took the politeness towards the Uxbridges as sincere, but something he was unaccustomed to.

I don't see the alien influenced stuff as "out of character" the way the OP probably meant, but there were a lot of fun and interesting moments in there.

Picard visiting the holodeck in We'll Always Have Paris to deal with his lost love, although he himself called it self-indulgent or something, he really wouldn't have gone there in the first place.

^Oh, come on. He's Human. The fact he used that term was perfect for him.

Geordi had a job to do and Scotty was getting in the way of it. Scotty would of course call it tinkering, but to tinker with high tech equipment, you first have to understand them (at least if you're not looking to create a new crater or something). The manual Scotty wrote was pushing a hundred years since it had been written, and technology had changed. Geordi had his responsibilities as Chief Engineer, and they didn't include handholding Scotty through getting up to date.

Scotty was doing exactly the same thing he hated about outsiders showing up in his engine room - he was MEDDLING. Geordi had a similar reaction to how Scotty would have handled it, which is to try to be patient until finally he had to throw Scotty out because of him getting in the way.

Indeed - remember how antsy Scotty got in Elaan of Troyius when her royal haughtiness started snooping around his engine room?
