Osama Bin Laden is Dead

There are a lot of really fascinating in-depth details coming out about the planning. I hope to play this mission in a video game some day!

This one is particularly fascinating:

Simon Pegg beat you to it:

"There's a slight sense in the more sensationalist media that the world just completed a particularly tricky video game."

Shot and then dumped over the side of a ship at sea; sounds like an appropriate end. Glad the Yanks got the job done; well done lads. :techman:

Wills & Kate appreciate the belated wedding present, too.
Can you imagine bieng that guy who dumped his body overboard. He probably had a shit eating grin. Hopefully they did it in shark infested waters.

Turns out the compound was less than a half-mile from a military academy. Doesn't sound like the Pakistan government was looking very hard for him.

Duh. it's why we didn't tell them we were coming in. The compound was huge and everyone know goes "It's of course built to hide important people. They knew he was there and just didn't care. It's why we should have kept going once we made our way through Afghanistan. Pakistan is a terrorist sate with nukes.

This is good for America, and good for Obama.

Yeah, that'll show him. If you thought being shot and killed was bad, just wait until your lifeless body is eaten by sharks!

LOL, and the Muslims here aren't even agreeing whether a sea burial is traditional or not. How screwed up can a religion be if they don't even agree on that? The Council on Muslim Faith says it's "a wise choice", and some university professor teaching islamic religion says it's wrong.

(Obama!)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
when there's danger all about
(Obama!)
Right on
You see this Prez Obama is a bad mother--
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Obama
(Then we can dig it)
He's a complicated man
but no one underestimates him but Bin Laden... [and Trump]

Osama Bin Laden is dead!
The hunt is over:techman:
Historical day, in the analogy of fight against terror:)
Congrats to the US special forces, intelligence people and President Obama of the the job well done:bolian:
I doubt nobody shares much tears, if any, for the sake of his demise. He was a evil guy, there is no question about that:vulcan:
It is certainly a big relief to the USA and particularly to the families and friends of those who died on 9/11( also those who where not from USA) and in other terrorist attacks.

I do worry if Bin Laden will be more valuable as an martyr to Al-qaeda than he was when he was still alive.
Though, I think al-qaeda has been severly weakened in the last few years, I mean just look how most of their major plots against the West have failed:rommie:
I am sure that we see some kind of retaliation from Islamists to Bin Ladens death:borg:..lets hope we can prevent those.

We won't be able to prevent such attacks. The Al-qaed aren't that weak we still don't have control in Afghanistan and there is some that believe that when we lowered of forces in Iraq, some sneaked back in.

:rolleyes:Catholics are the same way. My friend the American Catholic has been married, divorced n had the marriage annulled - she cannot pubkically acknowledge this where her current fiance lives in N. Ireland or no diocese will go near her marriage and his family would disown her - yet Americans dioceses in the states wouldn't care. And this schism is common.

Retaliatory strikes will be small, rushed, motivated by desperation and regional.

I also agree with tomalak that seeing people in the streets cheering does kind of make me feel uncomfortable and reminds me of images of people in the Middle East cheering after a terrorist attack. I think that this is good news, but there is still so much other bad stuff going on that it is hard to be excited about just one man's death. I understand that it is symbolic, but I feel more like saying, "good, finally, now let's move forward" rather than cheering.

I was wondering if I would wake up and feel differently than my attitude last night, and I kind of have to say yes. I'm glad the job got done, and have the utmost respect for our military and planners who carried it out. I agree it does provide a sense of closure, but like you said, Spot's Meow, I think it's more of a "now we can move on" kind of attitude I'm feeling. I don't know what the retaliation will be, or even if there is one at all, but I don't think Al Queda is happy about this today and OBL trained so many people. Maybe they think Laden is a Martyr today, or maybe the network is disorganized. We don't know but like I said last night, this War on Terrorism isn't like a normal war. It's not over, and we as americans and people of the world need to remain vigilant in our everyday lives.

That, and I will be probably happier when at least some of our domestic problems get worked out, like Jobs or trimming down the debt, or when I can finally say I'm not a "26 year old still living at home with mommy and daddy". Remember when that phrase was a negative connotation in the 90s. I don't think it is anymore given the environment in which we live these days.

I don't like the idea of reveling in another violent death - so much violence, so much damned violence. I would rather have seen him captured, so that the world could see why we are different - we truly believe in innocent until proven guilty, and the rights of the individual.

However-

Fuck that religious fundimentalist asshole. He murdered my neighbors and fucked up my city, and deserved to be shot and dumped in the ocean like the garbage he is. May all fundimentalist assholes of all stripes meet similar ends. As I heard someone say - we are not cheering death, we are cheering justice. So be it.

Face it, whether we had captured and killed Bin Laden yesterday or on 9/12/01, the US is NEVER going back to a pre-9/11 existence. His death has no bearing on that.

However, his death is bringing closure to the family and friends of people lost in attacks ordered by Bin Laden, as well as blurring the lines (however temporarily) between "Democrats" and "Republicans" to make us all just "Americans" again. That can be nothing but a good thing and can make us stronger to face any potential issues that may rise in the aftermath.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but this is what I see. Glad we got Osama, yay.

However, I think Obama is going to take all the credit for it, he wants to go down as the president who got Osama. And that just isn't the case, all the hard work at trying to get at Osama was done by Bush, Obama didn't do a thing to go after him. But since this went down during Obama's presidency, he'll get the credit, and that's just wrong.

Obama will use this to boost his ratings to get re-elected, that is all this is, a ploy to bring favor towards him cause he wants to get re-elected. He's done the Tornado thing recently, the Trump thing, and now he's got this in his bag. It is all a ploy to get people to cheer for him so they will re-elect him next term.

So many people are already saying Way to go Obama... but he didn't do a darn thing.

That makes no sense. How did Bush do all the work and then Obama (who...by the way...has been President for 2 years, 3 months, and 11 days) does nothing.

Obviously, Obama did go after him...as...you know...we got him.

Suck it up.
