Osama Bin Laden is Dead

Fox news have of course already declared "Obama Bin Laden" dead, but if this definitely true, ithey'll be crying into their beer cos i can it see it having just won Obama next year's election.

Doubtless we'll also soon see the apologists (George Galloway and the like) complaining about ooh this is naughty and what about the legality and all that shit. Who cares as long as the cunt's dead, is the correct answer. And whichever SEAL(s) clipped him should definitely get a medal.

It's definately true, otherwise we'd already have heard or seen a lifesign from the original.

It's a compromise between wanting to respect Muslim burial practices which require the body to be buried as soon as possible and a desire to have him buried at sea in an unknown spot so the site would not become a shrine to bin Laden (as Saddam Hussein's burial site in Ouja, Iraq has become for some of his supporters).

According to Wiki it's also allowed if there's a fear of enemies digging up a body to mutilate it.

And apparently they asked Saudi to take him and they refused.

In practical terms it won't make much difference - Al Zahwiri was also the more dangerous one, and bin Laden has been too busy running, cut off from communications with the others, to do much anyway.

I wouldn't want to be a Pakistani official right now - OBL's having been parked half a mile from their second biggest military academy means they've got a lot of questions to answer from US hawks, and the fundie terrorists (well, the local Taliban) have already threatened reprisals against them for not protecting him...

Never posted on these forums before, but found this amusing- type "bbs osama bin laden" in google, and this forum is the second result. And this thread has been very amusing to read :)

I'm glad you like it so far, and because of that, I have taken the liberty of reaching around in your pants pockets for spare change. I found a button, a Four of Clubs playing card with dried peanut butter on it (I hope that's dried peanut butter), and a keyring with a photo of Howie Mandel saying "You Are The Weakest Link. Goodbye!" on the front of it.

Welcome to the board! Oh, and next time you should come back with money.
Thanks...and I'm really not sure where the peanut butter came from.

What's really remarkable about this is that it involved four helicopters and around two dozen SEALs attacking a heavily defended and strongly constructed compound in an urban environment - which is arguably the most difficult kind of fight - for over forty minutes, and we didn't lose a single soldier. Not even after one of the helicopters in the operation crashed (or was shot down) according to CNN.

That's just brilliant planning and execution all around by the special forces and our intelligence agencies, which often only get credit for their failures because their victories are frequently secret or involve preventing greater tragedies.

Here's a thing: the compound was 800 METERS from the Pakistani Military College. WTF? Seriously?

Not sheltered my arse.

Took 10 years, but justice is served.

You know, yesterday I thought this was awesome

Now it just...makes me smile. When he came in he said he'd make it a priority, and he got it done.

Also at the White House Correspondent's Dinner two nights ago Seth Meyers joked about the fact that bin Laden was still on the loose, and Obama just cooly smiled along with the joke without even a nervous glance, having already ordered the operation by then. The guy is pretty smooth.

I'm reminded of John Goodman's line in The West Wing - It's a shame we could only kill the twat once.

It's probably better they killed him. Imagine he's put on trial. His followers won't accept it anyway. And then he is executed: martyr. Same thing. If he is put to prison: as long as he lives, the US would be blackmailed into releasing him by even more suicide bombings, while bin Laden continued to spew hatred, living from US tax money. That would have been even worse.
