Osama Bin Laden is Dead

So who else thought we were about to find out about alien contact, or bad news about an asteroid or a rogue black hole? :p

Doesn't change a thing

The thousands of people at Ground Zero, at the White House, and the millions celebrating right now around the world disagree with that assessment.

and doesn't make up for the curtailing of freedoms and loss of face that the USA has undergone in the past decade.
Loss of face can be regained over time.

They might as well had killed a ghost.
They didn't kill a ghost, but by damn he's a ghost now.

Yup. Closure is important to people. It's been a hard decade and now it finally looks like we got something out of it.

What...is the Air-speed velocity of what Bin Laden swallowed?

And the death of a very real boogie man for the young people of this country.

so much swagger
Is it wrong that when I see this, I picture Biden standing out in the hallway there and Obama slapping him a high-five as he walks past? :p

To say it doesn't change a thing is rediculous. It is a huge victory that any American should be proud of and any President would be happy to have. This gives some sort of closure to the 9/11 victoms' families and cuts the symbolic head off of Al Queda, which could be a blow to thier morale and resolve. This could be seen as the goal met in going to war in Afghanistan. Hopefully it will fast track us to ending our wars. It is a huge morale booster. It is something this country needed. Does it put an end to global terrorism, no but god dam if it doesen't feel good and that is what's important. The American people need a clear, decisisive victory and this is what this is. Now, hopefully we can start to move foward towards peace and put 9/11 behind us in a good way. Just think when this years aniversary comes, we will have something to celebrate.

The TSA isn't still using the color-coded system of threat level, are they? I always thought that the only thing that could get us kicked down to the 'blue' or 'green' levels would be OBL's death...

I thought it was going to be a spam/virus thread of some kind. Viruses have been known to spread using titles like this.

First of all, I'm glad that our great military and those involved in the mission got the job done. I hope Bin Laden rots in hell.

However, why the hell does this thing make me feel uncomfortable? I mean I'm seeing these revelers in the streets and the first thing that comes to my mind was one of the first images I saw after 9/11 of the revelers in the middle east celebrating when the towers went down. I almost feel like we're no better than those people are, and I just have a very different feeling than a lot of people. I'm sure I'll get asked "Well, what did you think should happen" or something like that, and my thoughts really are I don't know.

I guess I hope that americans remain vigilant because we don't know what the response will be, or if the terrorists will hit us harder, or if AlQueda goes down because the mastermind has been taken out.

So really, maybe I should be celebrating and I will never forget what happened that day. However, it's been 10 years and a lot of things have changed in 10 years. If this had happened maybe 5 years ago, I might be in more of a cheery mood, but right now, I just don't know.

Maybe you're exhausted. 10 years of constant reminder that he's still out there somewhere is enough to take a toll on you for a while. Perhaps it's time for some much needed rest. Perhaps we can all, while still maintaining caution, can get some rest.

Serious note: Defiling Bin Laden's body would only make enemies of those who may be friends. Most Muslims do not condone Bin Laden's actions, why should we "piss on" their faith. We killed him... justice is served. Even Christ said, "Let the dead bury their dead." Just sayin'.

This. I know this is a time for celebration and that we want to proclaim our victory over our defeated enemy, but the comments made by several posters regarding defiling bin Laden's body with pork's blood are really in bad taste. Yes, it would be a slap in the face to his terrorist buddies but it would also be insulting to muslims everywhere, including the ones who are our allies (and U.S. citizens).

Let's just be thankful that an obstacle to a better and more peaceful world has been removed.

I'm certain most of it was tongue in cheek. Plus, covering a Muslim in pork blood wouldn't defile them anyway because it was beyond their control to prevent it. It's why, in the same clause, a Muslim person can eat pork if it's all they have left upon which to survive. That said, bin Laden wasn't a Muslim. He was an asshole, and there's no restrictions for them.

I completely agree.

What difference is this going to make to continued military presence of the US in Afghanistan, Iraq etc.. NONE.

It should also be noted that Muslims are allowed to eat pork if it is forced upon them as the only form of nutrition (eg. stuck on an island with only pigs available). The only caveat being that they only eat enough to survive.

I believe it will make a difference, as one of our primary goals has now been met. I figure over the next couple of days and weeks, new strategies will be developed, and new timetables drawn to take advantage of this change.

Exactly.

Military in Iraq and afganistan are sending messages to press who they know saying that they are watching the crowds in DC and NYC.

I understand that you sleep nude, but I still can't figure out the purpose of the rubber ducky and packet of Mentos.
