^^ I am not entirely convinced by that statement, I see no twin boom configuration and the Akira has the nacelles hanging down, as for the rest, thats a damn neat little design.

Remember, according to Doug Drexler, the guys in charge literally wanted to use the Akira design for the NX-01. With no changes. Luckily, they were talked out of it.

You know in defense of the NX-01 looking like an Akira technically the Akira is a rip-off of an Enterprise design that would have been used for the abandoned Academy TOS prequel film that was thought up with before The Undiscovered Country was made instead.

I have seen fan versions of this, though none claimed any tie-in to season 5. They just wanted to see how the NX-01 looked with a secondary hull.

Well hell, I don't know why they just didn't consider using TOS Enterprise in that case... They bloody well used all the same technology anyway.

That was actually ILM's last thing they did for Generations, just as something to make life slightly easier for the team working on the next movie (assuming they decided to pull an Enterprise-A, which they didn't).
