which would you have preferred? the Beyond we got or whatever Orci was cooking up that was deemed 'too Star Treky' not Guardians enough (possibly involving timetravel/alt realities in a Days of Future Past/All Good Things type way - with Shatner as either future Pine Kirk or Prime Kirk)

it looks like Orcis ST3 might be being adapted for ST4 (same writers) but think id have preferred it to have been this movie. Also might've been more of an event for the 50th (and generated more interest/hype/box office etc)

Well, for the 50th anniversary I sure would have loved to have seen a few characters and actors from the others series... so if that was the case...

Whether you want Shatner to return as Kirk or not, I never understood JJ saying Shatner couldn't be in the new movies cos Kirk died in Generations. I mean, an older Kirk played by Shatner in the Kelvin timeline didn't have to die the same way as in the prime universe did he?

Orchis script from what I read sounded bad n Nimoy n Shatner speaking w their current counterparts was a gimmick

Beyond was imo best of the 3 nu Treks. Felt more like TOS but with only 6 months from creating a script to filming hurt the quality a bit.

The script w a cpl tweaks could've gone from good to greatness. Think studio knew that all along

I interpreted "Too Star Trek" to mean, "Too close to the look and feel of TNG and the TNG movies." Since I think the new movies are refreshing and Beyond did a much better job of the first two, no question. Beyond.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that much of the story for Orci's Trek 3 will be used for Trek 4 - assuming that movie is made.

I know Orci fequently chimes in the trekmovie.com comment sections. Has he made any comments since Beyond opened?

Probably giggling madly after being removed from the project. I know I would, but I'm petty.

While 2009 had the novelty of being New, did Into Darkness really thrill fans? I think it confused them more than energized (heh) them. Beyond on the other hand, is getting lots of nice comments and excitement.

I think that's evidence Orci shouldn't come back. We need Pegg and Doug to write the next one.

As much as I love Shatner, I was glad the nuTrek crew was given a chance on their own. It also was pretty nice not to have to listen to or read the Kurtzman/Orci/Lindelof haters on this movie for a change (I'm not among those, as I loved Star Trek and Into Darkness)
