Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof should not Return.

To be fair, I think Billj was speaking overall and not to any specific fan or group. The info is "out there", so to speak, for people to peruse.

No need to erupt.
No need to be snide in referring to a completely different issue in a different thread.

I have no idea what you're talking about?

But the "bad boy" Jim Kirk didn't originate in the novels:

Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan said:
CAROL: Listen, kiddo, Jim Kirk was many things, but he was never a Boy Scout!

Not to mention the revealing the whole cheating thing with the Kobyashi Maru.

You know, while I don't necessarily agree with every choice they made, I thought Orci and Kurtzman did a masterful job mining TOS and the TOS movies when crafting the reboot characters.

I especially love how McCoy got the "Bones" nickname.

Yeah. Kirk definitely fits that roll. I don't understand why some fans get so hot under the collar about it. It's been spoken of often that even if one hasn't read all the source material, it's hard not to get blast in the face with the info. The fan base has simmered with this for years, pro and con.

The Kobiyashi Maru story actually fits Poindexter-Kirk to a tee: a kid so monomaniacally driven to solve the problem that it actually occurred to him to reprogram the simulator. (Carol's line about Boy Scouts doesn't actually imply anything very specific about his being a "bad boy." There are a billion different ways for someone to not be a boy scout, including the literal... and I've always thought a certain dry literalism was actually the funnier interpretation of that line.)

Or, Scotty did them a service by pointing out a critical engineering error in the configuration of the shiip. After all, didn't he call the Excelsior a bag of bolts? Hell, he should've received a medal.

Meh, the kind of lame, self-serving excuse hacker punks proffer for breaking the law. Doohan sold it pretty well as "Scotty is irrationally devoted to his beloved ship," but it's the kind of thing a better-written version of the character should have been above.

Its great that we are all talking about Kirk and his great attributes but can we all get back to the main topic. how many of you really want Orci and his friends to return. I don't.

Orci and his friends are male fan writers so it is only logical that their writing in film lacks depth, substance and is filled with too much explosions, twisted sex scenes, unnecessary nudity and all the shallowness there is with little story.

Huh? Because they're males, or because they're fans of Trek?

get real credible and intelligent science fiction writers like Micko Kaku or Neil deGrasse Tyson
Who?

A quick glance at Wikipedia seems to indicate that Michio Kaku and Neil deGrasse Tyson don't write fiction at all, but factual science material.

And they're males. And perhaps fans of Trek.

Karl Urban improvised this line in his audition and JJ loved it and asked for it to be written into the final script.

I wish this guys don't return for the third film. No offence, I am not saying they are awful but they don't just work for a franchise like Star Trek. Orci and his friends are male fan writers so it is only logical that their writing in film lacks depth, substance and is filled with too much explosions, twisted sex scenes, unnecessary nudity and all the shallowness there is with little story.

Twisted sex scene and nudity ? Are you sure you watched Star Trek Into Darkness and not Blue is the Warmest Colour ?

Star Trek films should have a very deep story with a lot of philosophical and intellectual influences.

They tried that with TMP and it didn't work. All Trek movies after that have a liberal amount of action.

I don't except Paramount to listen to many fans. All they care about is making money

Hint: they are a business.

Why is Kirk having sex with two cat women at the same time.

"Why" ? I assume because the character likes it.

Am sorry but the year is almost over. I can't defend STID anymore.

I don't follow. How does the first sentence lead to the second ?

In TNG, I still get chills watching Picard, Worf, Riker,
Dr. Crusher, Geordi, Deanna and Data all sitting together in the commanding room giving their opinions on things or what the next step there is to take.

Do you understand why this wouldn't work in a movie ?

Okay how about the guy that wrote contact. I can't remember his name but you know the film. The one with Jodi Foster. He could pen the next Trek film.

I am still rooting for Neil and kaku. They could be the film's consultant. At least we wont have the ship under water. they will give us good science fiction.

Orci and his friends are much more like frat boy fans that is why their scripts are very shallow. There is room for improvement.

Orci seems very intelligent when he speaks but it seems as if his other friends are the ones that are bringing in all the silliness. No one likes Lindelof. Happy he is gone.

Matter of fact I had this weird dream about the return of Orci and His Friends, this is how it started:

"I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden Lampshades, 13 and among the Lampshades was someone like a Large Ham dressed in Bling reaching down to his feet and with a gold medallion around his neck. 14 The hair on his head was slick with grease, as black as oil, and his eyes were like he had been blazing since about 4:20. 15 At his feet were, like, these blondes crawling like Caitians, and his voice was like the sound of air escaping from a plot hole. 16 In his right hand he held seven toy cars, and coming out of his mouth was a fat wad of Benjamins. His face was otherwise pretty normal.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the Worst of the Hacks. 18 I am the Bowdlerizing One; I was on vay-kay, and now look, I am back for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of CBS and Paramount and am under contract for ten thousand more Trek films..."

After that it gets pretty messed up. Woke up in a cold sweat, I tell you. Shivering. I have been to the dark side, I have seen a world no man should see...

I wan Orci and Co. back. They've done well so far, and they should get a chance to finish telling their version of the TOS universe.

Carl Sagan wrote the novel Contact from which the movie's based--he's dead. The screenwriters on the film version are not bad, but not great either. One did work on Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix, the other on Hook, so yeah don't hold you breath on the "good science fiction" part of your wish.

The Enterprise underwater is no worse than the Enterprise flying through a Space Amobea or Voyager and fluidic space.

They're responsible for two of the most successful Star Trek films ever. I don't see why anyone in their right minds wouldn't want them back.

You do realize that being a consultant doesn't mean squat in the final product. There are reams of "corrections" provided to TOS by Kellam DeForrest research about errors that were ignored for budgetary, story and time reasons.

I can see why individuals would not want them back--not everyone has to like their work. However, I cannot fathom, based on the money the films have made, why Paramount would not want them back. And as they are the final decision makers…I wouldn't hold my breath about a complete replacement of the writing team unless they remove themselves voluntarily.

As a newbie to the forums, I'm kind of surprised (but glad) to see so many people defending the Abrams Star Trek movies. I would think most "Trekkies" were very anti-Abrams going by what I've heard but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

It's already confirmed that they are. I think this should be "their" trilogy - it would be strange for the 3rd (and possibly final) installment to have a completely different feel to the other two.

I was a Trekkie before some of the anti-Abrams crowd were born. :p
