Opinions about a photo, please

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
This is a photo of my great grandmother, I was hoping that your people might be willing to hazard a guess at her ethnicity based on the photo. Her father's origins are a bit of a mystery and we are starting to wonder if we are looking in the right place for him.

Russian/Former Soviet Union...atleast Eastern European.

I'm not sure. My first thought was eastern Europe, perhaps Poland or Romania. On second thought, the Pacific islands or Latin America are likely as well. I have a friend from New Zealand with some similar facial features, and I also have a friend from Mexico who looks similar.

I might go with 'pacific islander' but Russian also looks like a perfectly good guess.

Let's say she could be part Russian/Slavic and part Maori/Hawaiian. How that combination could happen would make an interesting story, I'm sure.

From her eyes I say she is originated from the east Baltic region i.e. Finns and Russians. However her wide nose bridge and wide lips suggest to me that she has aboriginal blood or southeast Asian blood. Anyhow this is really hard because judging someone's ethnicity from look can be quite deceiving a lot of times.

We are certain that on her mother's side she is of English descent. Her mother's family were from Gloustershire and we have trace the family back about another three generations in that county.

Her father states on his marriage certificate that he was born in London, England. However he has a reasonable common name (an English name) and we haven't been able to find a record of christening for him, nor any documentation of his arrival in Australia. In fact we have nothing on him before the marriage certificate.

Since she seems to be invisible from the chest down, she may be related to Jack Griffin.

Interesting answers, I would have said she was English personally, she looks like she should be beating some young Liverpudlian lad with a rolling pin.

I see a touch of Polynesian but this question isn't going to get any definitive answers.

Maybe not, but it might encourage us to widen the area of search for her father rather than just assuming what he stated on his marriage certificate was the truth.

My first thought was that she could be related to my family, specifically the Russian/Ukrainian ancestors. The eyes, eyebrows and stocky build remind me of photos of my great-grandmother. However, the nose and mouth seem more Pacific islander to me (with the caveat that I actually don't know any Pacific islanders).

She looks vaguely Native American to me. Pacific Islander seems like a good fit as well. Don't Native American and Pacific Islander have similar features?

edit:
Hmmm being that you are from Tasmania, Native American might be a bit of stretch.
