Only Murders in The Building

I loved watching both Eva Longoria and Zach Galifianakis leaning hard into the fictionized versions of themselves. One's a prima donna, the other is insane! Narf!

Oh, wait, wrong show.

Amongst their craziness, at least we had the calming presence of a typical neurotic Richard Kind character.

...before we got to the ham radio cliffhanger. The trio has now been threatened to stop investigating twice, first by text, now by radio. What's next? Semaphore?

I definitely didn't expect to see Paul Rudd returning but that was a fantastic turn! I loved the stunt people bar with their hilarious hatred for actors (so dubbed "faces") and the Irish Wake-esque ritual of hitting the corpse with a prop bottle (poor Charles!), so why not throw in some Paul Rudd into the deal? Brilliant! :guffaw:

I was a bit disappointed how the Westies storyline suddenly seems to be resolved already (unless the rent scheme is all a cover!) but I imagine we'll see more of them since you don't bring in Richard Kind to chew up scenery for only four episodes.

Paul Rudd was an unexpected joy!

I'm guessing Sazz wasn't talking about Charles when she talked about a relationship. Jan? Someone else? Producer woman?

That was an unexpected turn of events!

Agree about the Westies, if nothing else at least it officially (if illegally) gets Mabel back in the building.

They've still got six episodes to fill right? So guessing some plot twists are a commin!

I feel like there must be more to the ham radio thing, it was a big cliffhanger last week but this week they just blew it off as Christmas Guy's crazy ex...

I'm guessing Bakula.

We are 4 episodes in and Mabel still hasn’t got a new love interest. Very suspicious if you ask me
I was thinking the same thing.

That being said, she thinks Christmas guy is cute but weird and Kumail Ali Nanjiani is a relatively big star not to do more with in a storyline...

"When did you grow a beard, lassie?"
"That's not Mabel!"

A silly throwaway joke? Or a clue that Paul Rudd's character has face-blindness, which will somehow be important later!?!?!

Paul Rudd never actually said that was Mabel. Maybe we have two characters who already know each other.

Well, that was quite the turnaround. Could they really have already unveiled the murderers so early on but with more layers to them, or just another fake-out?

I do like the idea of Chekov's face-blindness Glen Stubbins...

I love that Marshall Peepope idolizes Charlie Kaufman, of all screenwriters, to the point of wearing a fake beard in order to feel accepted.

And holy shit, Bev Melons is beyond bonkers. Perfect role for Molly Shannon.

Surely not.

My pick for (one of?) the killer/s right now is the writer. But I don't expect to be right.

I'm also thinking the "two killers" thing is a dead herring and later we'll find out the timeline has an error in it.

Also, funny how Mabel can spot a fake beard even when the one he has in the scene is clearly real.

It was certainly played to make you think he was talking about Mabel but that is an interesting idea.

In fact the appearance of Rudd full stop in the show is interesting. Is it a case that everyone had so much fun last season that they had to bring him back, or is there a deeper meaning given he did know Sazz?

It would be pretty crazy to have the actor who played last season's victim play this season's killer after all? And if anyone could get from the West Tower to Charles' apartment in the allotted time a stunt man fits the bill.

Must be a fake-out, I never like shoeprint evidence, who wears the same pair of shoes all the time?

Bev is nuts. "People can relate to people, and buttons." I was amazed she didn't throw out Howard's 'pets with jobs' podcast idea!

Surely not.

Also why only two killers? You could have had a sniper and then a whole team on cleanup duty. So do you think the actor had a beard for some scenes and then they shaved? I'm not sure why they'd do that for a part unless it was relevant?

Anyhoo that was a hoot, especially Charles' Bond fantasy which was then one upped by Oliver's physical exertions (and McEnroe cameo!)

Given how much they're leaning into Sazz being the target I wonder if this is a bluff and the bullet was meant for Charles all along as originally thought.

Longoria seems to to be having an absolute blast playing 'herself'

Riffing on Tosk's comment about the writer's beard, this made me think of twins and obviously there's a whole heap of duality going on here.

Charles/Sazz
Charles/Eugene Levy
Ben Glenroy/Glen Stubbins
The Brothers Sisters
Oliver/Zach Galifianakis
Mabel/Eva Longoria

There's reference to imposter syndrome as well.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this but it seems awfully prevalent not to be relevant.

Ummmm...I do. Lots of people do.

That said, I'm willing to believe quirky people like the Brothers Sisters perhaps do not wear the same shoes all the time. Although at the same time, that is a very distinctive shoe print.

Oh, duh! I knew he looked familiar but I couldn't place him.

Admittedly, I didn't notice that until the two killers theory came up and then it seemed so obvious. I agree that the show is definitely making it a big theme this season.

If impostor syndrome is part of the plot, what if the writer didn’t actually write the screenplay? What if he either stole it or was given the script and told to say he wrote it?

I wondered that, too, especially since his flashback narration skipped from writer's block to completed script without showing him doing any actual writing.
