I did a lot of DMing when I was in high school and college in 2e and now I've been getting back into it and planning a 5e campaign. Eventually it's going to be used with RL friends but until the current campaigns are done I've been planning one shots with online people.

For the online people we're only going to be using voice chat (Since we're strangers) and a couple of them are newbies, so I want to find some good online tools to visualize the dungeons and make them more immersive. Anyone have some good suggestions? Roll20? Something else? Good map building tools so I'm not just fixing my scribbles to a grid?

(Also, I have no expectations of getting interest here, but if you are interested let me know. :) )

    Roll20 is your go to.

Tabletop simulator on steam MIGHT work, but I've seen Roll20 at work (and you can, to, if you want to check it out on twitch, beagle streams it, seems to work fine).

Uhhh dunno about other options, everything else looks like an accessory than a way to play the game.

Of the two, Roll20 is apparently cheaper and more fleshed out than TTS, but again I dunno as I've never touched TTS

Roll 20 is not bad and it can work with just the SRD Basic rules- manually adding the advanced stuff you need can be a simple cut and paste job from online sources. Adding maps can be a pain, but there are some decent videos out there.

I don’t really need a tool to make rolls or track damage for me, I just want good looking maps you can place and move icons across and handles visibility.
