One Thing Trek Lit Needs to Address...

Well, I saw Rapture (possibly my favourite DS9 episode -- despite not being a spiritual person myself, seeing Sisko become a true believer because of the gift of his vision and the consequences of it I found thrilling -- the grand moment where he derails the Bajoran-Federation membership talks was amazing) as a big turning point for the character and Reckoning as being a logical extension of it, though I will concede he didn't have a Bajoran-like devotion to them; given what we know about his nature, that makes a lot of sense.

"Rapture" is one of my favorites, too. But I interpreted it a little differently than you did. :)

I very much like the fact that he hasn't rejoined Starfleet in the novels -- that would seem out of character given the journey he's been on.

Sisko is still in Starfleet. He's just on family leave.

Did that actually get stated somewhere? I don't recall him even meeting with any Starfleet officals after his return (of course it's been awhile since I read the post-Unity novels).

"Rapture" is one of my favorites, also. It has one of the three or four best scenes in Star Trek history, IMO, to wit, when Kira, Worf, O'Brien, and Dax are discussing what's happening to Sisko. Worf and Kira come down on the spiritual side, with O'Brien and Dax on the secular side, and it's a great great scene, beautifully displaying all four characters.

Well, Titan's Dr. Ree is a pantheist. I envisioned the Pahkwa-thanh faith as sort of a combination of African Animism and Shinto.

Any universe that has Q in it or V'Ger or the Borg, certainly would have a stack of pretty interesting faiths.

Cool, that's really interesting about Ree's beliefs. At this point one of the big things I would love to see is more of the Pahwa-thanh, either by visting their homeworld, or even just getting a Titan book focusing on Ree.

I'm pretty sure its been mentioned (or at least stroingly implied) more than once since Unity--possibly in Fragments and Omens and/or Warpath--but the one that's freshest in my mind is in Fearful Symmetry, during Sisko's scene with Vaughn.

There's no such scene in any of the books. The closest thing is in Unity, when Sisko tells Kira that he turned down a promotion, which of course means there must have been some contact between Sisko and Starfleet Command soon after his return.

It's in Warpath - Sisko and Dax were discussing Sisko's state of mind, and his concern that his trials would be over after Dukat, Winn and the Fire Caves. He was talking about feeling as if he were on borrowed time, and Dax suggested that to pursue his course, he could always return to Starfleet and take the promotion. Sisko snorted, and said that he didn't see his plan taking that course...at least not yet. "And it's kinda nice to wear civvies all the time" was his other justification.

Yes, I'm a whore for David Mack novels, and Warpath is one of the favorites....then again, everybody who knows me here knows that. LOL!
