One little question..

It's a frakking salt shaker. You make design concessions for the utility of the object.

I was joking about the symbolism of the broken salt-shaker. Hence the wink smiley.

You're not wrong here...there is a reason why it's broken and there is a reason why salt comes pouring out. Every single thing that is put in a movie is there for a reason...NOTHING is random...and I mean Nothing...even a plant that's on a desk that you can barely even see in the shot was chosen with purpose.

I guess having the salt-shaker be broken symbolizes the broken ship, as well as Kirk's inner struggle to fix his own broken life. ;)

And the salt pouring out of the shaker symbolizes -- what? :)

Bad luck.

I noticed that it was a salt shaker the first time I saw the movie.

It looks like a pretty damn shitty salt shaker that's more form than it is function, but a salt shaker.

It'd be neat to have a set of them, though. :)

The salt shaker represents Kirk, who is missing his soul-mate, the pepper shaker.

I'm sure I don't have to tell yall who the pepper shaker is. ;)

Well, this didn't take long to turn to Kirk/Spock slash.
